Rupp seats more than Madison Square Garden (last I saw) and a lot of season ticket holders are old money. It's a noon tip off, on a Saturday, against a team we should steam roll.
Always a reason. Next week it'll because its a half moon and too late of a game.

Ive been to 5 games. The crowd has never been impressive. I guess I need to go to more UL style games to hear the good crowds.
The crowd for mid major type games is pretty underwhelming.
I will say this, when I sit in the upper level the crowd is much better. Lower level can be good at times, but the majority of the real fans are in the uppers.

This is what it has turned into..1 hour and 57 minutes of absolute silence, with the rare 3 minutes of enthusiasm. Embarrassing.

Yeah because the standing around pounding the dribble for 25 seconds really fires the crowd up

Well, I was at home and didn't pay much attention to the crowd, but I can say, the team was sleepwalking much of the game. Seems like the mental mistakes were the worst recently....even I had a few nods.

I've never been to a mid-major game. All conference games. The crowds were decent. Nothing spectacular. Definitely not what you expect out of the fans for the greatest program in history.

When I was a kid, listening to Cawood call games with Issel, Pratt, Casey, Riley, Dampier, etc... I became accustomed to high scoring games (especially Issel's teams) and regularly flogging opponents. While they had some close games, there were lots of blow-outs. IMO, Ky should always have its way with SEC teams. Reality says this is not the case, but it's still ingrained in me. It's hard to get excited about a 5-10 point win in which your team only scores in the 60's or 70's. One of the last games I attended was something like a 64-58 beat down of Georgia....fifteen /twenty years ago. Place was like a morgue.
I wonder if lots of the older fans in the lower seats feel the same.
As an older fan there are some things that are ingrained on the bball portion of my psyche:
We should never score fewer than 85 pts;
We should always beat teams like uga, fla, vandy,...basically any SEC team with ease.

Look guys and gals...Rupp Arena is what it is. It's been this way since I was at UK WAAAAAAAAY back in the 80's. People that donate large sums of money will get the best seats (lower arena along the sides) and don't expect those people to be standing and cheering throughout the entire game....it's not going to happen...EVER! It is what it is unfortunately. Unless UK changes the set up for seating (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!) then things will continue on as they are at Rupp. Sorry, but that's reality.
to be fair, the crowd was rocking for Louisville.

I suspect if they had more big name programs come in the crowd would respond.

Has anyone really been excited about Alabama basketball coming into Rupp since maybe Robert Horry or Latrell Sprewell?

Swear, there are so many who *****,*****, ***** about everything no matter if we win. We could run the table and it would still be, “but our offense/defense/coach/ lol.”

I thought the crowd was pretty loud in this game

Crowd sounded pretty good on the radio.

Yawn... same guys same old whining trick bag. I heard Mike Pratt and Tom L say it was a great atmosphere.

My wife was with our neighbor friend (I gave up my seat today) and said the crowd was great. Almost every seat filled and loud. Like others say, TV is not the best way to judge crowd noise level. We won and are 3-0 in SEC yet some yahoo posts negative stuff about the crowd at Rupp. Welcome to Rafters and maybe another troll?

Sometimes you can tell when it’s quiet on tv, but it sounds like according to the radio guys it was better than it sounded.

I mean okay point taken on not being there, but I live almost 4 hours from Lexington, have a 5 and 7 year old at home and work a million hours a week and am gone overnight traveling a couple nights a week. Going to the game involves a little more than “just getting off the couch.” But I gotcha. I’ll zip it about the crowd
That's 5+ hours from StL to Lex...unless you're breaking the laws of highway transportation :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Sorry, the Geographer in me is coming out. [cheers]

Were you there? I doubt it because the crowd was good today. My money says you watched it on your Walmart flat screen without a soundbar.

Except you didn’t say the crowd “seemed” quiet. You said “absolute silence” for 1:57 which is totally false. I was there and it was a very good crowd! Sensitive? Maybe just tired of people complaining about the crowd when they’re not even there to know.
Exactly

Exactly! Glad you understand! If you don’t go, don’t ***** about the ones who actually do. Maybe if you cheer loud enough, the team can hear you from your couch! By the way, there were seats available if you want to help improve the environment.

Also, if you aren’t at the game, you don’t truly get a feel for the crowd. Tv can drown out the crowd.
That’s the point I was making. If you’re not there you don’t really know. I certainly understand there are people that cannot go to games for many different reasons.

Know what you are saying. Imagine Rupp with a shot clock and three point line.

I suggest those that do not like it do something about it, write UK make suggestions, donate money or buy a ticket and lead cheers yourself.

Why do that? Takes effort, time and money. Easier to sit in a recliner eating a ham and cheese, drink a couple Yuenglings while cursing the teen age players and a HOF coach and then criticize the Rupp crowd who bought tickets and actually made the effort to attend.

I didnt go today, my gf did, and commebted that the crowd was really good today. I watched the first few minutes on TV and the crowd seemed pretty lively. Normally Im with OPs opinion of our crowds. Ill listen to her though because she usually agrees with my assessment of some of the less enthusiastic fans there.

While Im on the subject.....I get tired of people arguing about cheering and standing on here. Even our friggin head coach says he wants the fans to stand and cheer. So if you wont listen to me or others on here, maybe youll listen to John Calipari. It isnt Broadway or Cinemark....its a damn sporting event. If you want to sit on your *** all game, youre part of the problem. You people know who you are. It makes the environment not fun for the fans who want to get into and make it fun.

I thought as a few points during the run early and when we needed it late the crowd really got into it.

Rupp is a great big game crowd. Other games it has its moments. But I find it interesting people complaining about crowds when they aren’t there. Some just have to ***** about something since UK has won four games in a row.

Predictable as the sun coming up. If we win, then some have to complain about the crowd, the uniforms, the margin, blah, blah, blah. At least they are giving Cal some rest.

I was present for the Mizzou game. I thought the crowd was good. Per Cal's request we stood for the final four minutes. Not always easy to do with foul stoppages time outs etc. It was great to be there and was the beautiful bow on top of my Christmas present to go to Rupp for a game. I live in Smyrna, TN so it is about a five hour drive when I stop by Danville to visit my son's family.

100%. just saying, I mean I think it’s probably okay to make the observation that the crowd seems quiet even if you’re at home. People got sensitive about this one though!
uhhhh...."pathetic" and "embarrassing" is not the same as "seems quiet"

well read through the thread, no sensitivity here. I got your point. I appreciate the doubling down on the passive aggressive though :eek:kay:
man, that is just like my ex...she could/does triple down on that passive aggressive stuff...

Just an FYI to those that like to complain about crowd noise. Television uses microphones and settings to temper crowd noise.

They must not be working at Clemson tonight because the crowd certainly isn't being muted 1 bit tonight.

ah, so if you’re not there you can’t say anything about the crowd. Gotcha
No but you were quick to agree with a know troll that does everything to bring any positive down. I watched it on TV two and U thought the crowd was solid. I don’t remember you or the OP posting about the crowd during the UL game.

Lol come on. Surely you aren’t trying to compare crowd noise from a Kentucky game vs a bad Bama team to Clemson’s biggest game of the year.

crowd was freaking awesome in the UL game, no doubt about it. I know the Rupp crowd is amazing for the really big games (I’ve been to several of them).

Personally I have always been fascinated with Memorial and love that size venue.
