True, although it's not the crisis some are making it out to be either. For the remainder of the 2018 class we'll only take a few more recruits plus a grad transfer so the staff will be shifting their focus to 2019 recruits. As others have said and I don't think it is an exaggeration, Ash's future is dependent on the success of this hire so if more time is required to get the right guy, so be it.

And most if not all are on the defense side of of the ball, except for Hiliman.

It's been rumored that Cignetti was contacted and is a no-go.
Oh OK. I heard that they talked to him but did not know that one side passed.

I'm guessing that people have figured out that RU isn't a place where you just put on the pads and put up 400 yards a game without even trying.

The longer this goes on the higher the chance that this hire will end up being one of those "Who?????" head scratching type hires... I am concerned, VERY concerned.

A lot of good coaches where "Who????" hires at one point. Sometimes you get Drew Mehringer, sometimes you strike gold.

How did we become such an undesireable place? What is going on?
I wouldn't say that. It's a two sided thing. Who's to say Ash might not be interested in guys that any of us like. I mean I wasn't enthused about DM or Kill yet they were hired, it doesn't mean we were undesirable. It's hard to know what the reason is. Just because we're interested in Mazzone or Wright or Lashlee or whomever doesn't mean Ash is and so it doesn't speak to our desirability. We can't really know.

But again we're not the only school looking for an OC for a bit of time. Mizzou and Illinois have been as well. South Carolina only just filled their OC spot this morning and it was an internal promotion but they did hire a guy I have mentioned as a possible OC for us since last year in Dan Werner as their qb coach. TT is out there as well but more recently.

I wonder if Al Golden would be interested. Detroit just fired their HC so the new coach will probably want to bring in his own coaches. Seems he has experience on both sides of the ball having been DC at UVA, OC at RBHS and of course most recently the TEs coach for the Lions. Furthermore, he would give recruiting in NJ - Ash's achilles heel - a big boost.

Did you lose your virginity to Al Golden or something?

It's just embarrassing at this point.

Hello All!
My speculation with regard to Messingham is really just a suspicion I have that would help explain why an OC hasn’t been hired yet. I know he’s not a flashy hire but NDS scores points and isn’t that the bottom line. I just makes me wonder what he could do with RU’s roster.

I know for a fact that that Joe Osovet is not even in the conversation but I think he would be amazing. Just Google him and tell me he wouldn’t be, the guys just a winner.

I too wait with baited breath on this hire.
Sounds like Osovet has interviewed for the Tenn WR coach spot.

Tennessee: Yesterday we reported that Phil Fulmer had interviewed a number of candidates, and 247 noted today that two guys that have met with Fulmer about the wide receivers job are former Florida State co-offensive coordinator Lawrence Dawsey and Joe Osovet, the head coach at ASA Brooklyn (JC – NY). We can confirm that both guys have interviewed.

Tough for RU the get JUCO’s especially from a school like ASA.

To paraphrase Albert Einstein: Whatever our problems with the OC search are, I can assure you that Ash's problems are greater.

What about recently-cut Nebraska OC and former Giants QB coach Danny Langsdorf?

Nebraska's staff was fired for a reason. Despite having more talent than us, and an offensive "guru" as head coach, they finished 84th in scoring this past season and 87th in total O. NO THANKS!

Hey, has anyone noticed that Joe Osovet has been interviewed for the WR coach position at Tennessee. People thought I was crazy when I mentioned him but obviously more than just myself realizes that this guy was legit. He was right under Ashs’ nose the whole time and never even got a call, unbelievable.

How do you know he never got a call? Were you sitting outside Ash's office at the Hale center all week with your ear to the wall?

We're all very well used to the last two regimes where you had guys like Jason Baum leaking things like crazy. That doesn't go on with Coach Ash. Nobody even knew Kill was in play last year until he was hired. We'll all find out who gets hired when it's announced, just like last time. Also, just like last time, we'll never really know who was on the interview list unless that guy blabs.

They're offering him as a WIDE RECEIVERS coach, not OC, you understand this right?

This guy - brand new poster??? - seems to be a complete "know-it-all" but maybe just takes a lot of wild guesses?? We shall see! Tell us more about yourself @Lawesome ! Have you posted here before? What's your connection to RU?

And hardly a know it all, mostly all wild guesses.

Absolutely love the honesty LOL! Many have come here pretending to know things right off the bat, then they disappear, hence my curiosity I'm sure you can understand! [cheers]

Hey Lawesome, other than tweeting with Ocelot, do you have any other connections to the search, dogs in the fight?

I think Kill was mentioned as a candidate by nj.com before he got hired. But you're right as far we don't know and might never know who was interviewed and who wasn't etc...We all have our own likes and dislikes but it doesn't mean much, it's just for discussion here.

I know this is way off topic but why not get Mark D’Nofrio, Al Golden’s old DC at Temple/Miami as the new D line coach. Played at Penn State with Golden and is a Jersey guy. Does anyone know if he’s even coaching anymore?

Lawesome was the first to post the possibility of the OC from North Dakota State might be a sleeper for the job. They play tomorrow in an FCS championship and the announcement would obviously have to wait until after they play. As Knight Shift has said, it could be the post/prediction of the year if it comes to fruition.

Why?

There are tons of "movin' on" announcements made before bowl games, right? So how come this one would be different?

Largely because the OC at NDS worked with Ash at Iowa State and that connection was missed by many of the prognosticators.

Maybe NDS doesn’t want there to be any distractions. Like I mentioned before, I’m just guessing. I’m just puzzled as to why this whole process is taking so long to hire someone but a case like this would help to justify the long wait.
