Lutovsky will be in his third year. He should be rounding into a guy who can be a plus player inside. Two new guys who are likely to start, plus a new staff that should be able to link up efficient line play that is in synch with the play calling. I’m not sure I understand what Rhule was getting at when he said the play calling didn’t put the line in a position to have success.
There was zero deception in our run game and virtually no threat of a QB run. Our play action fakes were awful. You might as well just have held up a sign saying “we’re running the ball” or “it’s a pass”. I like Whips route trees but damn he did nothing to keep the D guessing.

It’s as if Whipple didn’t really care if the run offense generated any yards in the last half of the season. Two drives against Wisconsin where NU just had to get one first down.

Frost was right when he said Whip needed to be more imaginative in the run game. Our offense was better IMO before we fired Frost.

Was reading an article on line that Raiola is going to get some O line coaching help this spring for certain. Foley has coached O line and someone else. It will be good just to get some different eyes on the situation.

My take on Rhules comment about thr O line is running plays were they aren't locked up in so much man to man, more combo blocks at the point of attack. Every HS coach dies that at times, you won't get the big yards but maybe you can sustain something. Just a guess.

Edit: the same article was blasting Raiola for his lack of ability to recruit. They went down the list and named which coach actually recruited the kids. Said the kids we got this year were all coming here regardless. So I guess we will see long term.

The biggest addition of this offseason, without a doubt.
The biggest addition in awhile.
Our O Line has been historically bad. This pickup cant be overstated.

Definitely adds more talent and depth to the Oline room. The truth is, however - there has been sufficient talent in the Oline room for years - its not been about talent - its been 100% coaching and its continued to this day. Will be interesting to see if it continues next season with a new HC, OC, etc. I wouldn't count on it
Does this ring a bell National: "I have an asset on the west coast very well connected and Neb. is on the outside looking in"

Some serious competition between guys with some experience for 3 spots. I like it.

I think he meant to say. "I'm an asshat on the West Coast." I'm not connected to anything Nebraska. Im on the outside looking in."

Dude idk if you’re trolling but the talent in the OL room has been horrible, like worst in P5. Granted the personnel decisions didn’t help along with injuries and a steroid ban.

That is good to hear. I read the article by Jeremy Pernell that asserted the opposite and said most of our O line recruits this past year were the result of other coaches and not Raiola.
Pernell knows as much about what our recruiters actually do as that doofus national. Which means nothing. Our O linemen love the guy and so have kids he’s recruited. Our problem previous to Rhule recruiting hasn’t been Raiola. Some say “all he got this year were guys who were coming to NU regardless of who the O line coach was”. That’s baloney. Part of our failure in the past was not appreciating guys like Harrison Phillips to chase kids from Florida.

He and Teddy will battle it out at RT. I think everyone wants Teddy to lock down that RT, but he needs to get healthy. Benhart has been public enemy #1 with Husker fans but he actually played a lot better toward the end of the year and I hope he sticks around and competes.

Was over reading the Iowa board for reactions and they are what you would expect, they are nervous and hoping Rhule is another Scott Frost, which he is not by a long stretch.

This is damn good news. Thanks for this. I did not know really who Pernell was so I did not know how seriously to take his analysis.

Cam Jurgens took an *** ton of heat for the longest time and once he got things figured out he became a favorite... When Bryce came to NU people were excited to have him and then we all saw just how much work he was gonna need.... here's to hoping another year and continued progression sees this kid turning out ok

We didn’t do him any favors by throwing him to the dogs as a freshman. We have to try to get to the point where we can allow kids to mature before we expect them to block early round draft pick B1G pass rushers.

Cam took heat because he couldn’t snap the ball not because he couldn’t block

I don't know what position on the OL Benhart is going to play but I feel the new staff will figure it out. Let's all hope Bryce has a turn around this year and we can all say well done to the young man.
