the bad news though...

Rouse is recovering from a torn labrum and will miss spring ball
Mental reps and non-contact drills are going to be a big deal. Damn. Why can’t we have nice things. Probably explains why we were able to land him.

Could explain why a projected 5th rounder would come back for a 5th year of college.

The kid has started a lot of football games. I'm not worried if he misses spring practices. Get his body right and get him on the field in the fall.

That is good to hear. I read the article by Jeremy Pernell that asserted the opposite and said most of our O line recruits this past year were the result of other coaches and not Raiola.
I read the same article and it does concern me. He had the name of the recruiter for each person so it wasn't just a fluff in general article.

Pernell knows as much about what our recruiters actually do as that doofus national. Which means nothing. Our O linemen love the guy and so have kids he’s recruited. Our problem previous to Rhule recruiting hasn’t been Raiola. Some say “all he got this year were guys who were coming to NU regardless of who the O line coach was”. That’s baloney. Part of our failure in the past was not appreciating guys like Harrison Phillips to chase kids from Florida.
I have no clue what Pernell knows and frankly don't have a clue who the guy really is. My guess is, based on the information he shared, he does have some inside information that has at least some level or reliability. I guess you can dismiss it all day long if it doesn't fit the narrative you want but I didn't see you providing any information aside from calling him a "doofus" to back up your claim. Can't have this both ways.

Not speculation, it's how he explained why he's coming back for another year of college. If he wasn't injured he said he would be in the NFL draft this year.

Hadn't read that, but it makes sense. Smart kid, glad we got him.

Hoping for a full recovery here. We really need this guy. I think hoping Barnhart suddenly develops feet of Mercury is pie in the sky. But, maybe a new S&C coach can figure out how to chisel the cement blocks off his feet. Some guys just don't have quick twitch muscle that twitchy enough to be effective at this level. After these past years, I just don't think he has it, period. If he is in the starting five again next year, we are in trouble. Maybe not as inept as this year, but not good enough, IMO. Great guy so far as I know, but not good enough athlete for what we need to be succesful.

I’ve read way too much stuff from him that turned out to be wildly inaccurate. Take a poke in the dark and see how many clicks you can get.

Agree, but I thought he was dismissive to say the guys Raiola got were coming here anyway. I think with the loss of Flores, Brahmer and almost loss of Alvano and Coleman it is hard to assume ANY local kid is a lock, so Raiola had to have some influence on them.

Of course it would have been great to get Mazzccua as well, but picking up 2 out 3 of the recent big weekend visitors is pretty damn good.

You can find the name of the recruiter for each kid on Rivals. That doesn’t mean that is why the kid committed to NU. Every single O line recruit gets recruited by Raiola even if that kid isn’t in his recruiting territory. They all talk with him and meet with him on visits. Considering this was his first year and how little time he had to build relationships I believe he’s done a good job.

I think the front 7 on defense is a bigger need right now.
The are five listed DL on scholarship who are not incoming freshmen and 5 Edge guys (including Appleget). Butler and Gunnerson may play at the LOS in some situations I'd think. The question is how will the Edge and LB guys shake out in terms of who occupies the three LB spots.
