Ace couldn’t be more inconsistent. Very poor handle… very. Dylan seemingly peaked and is not the player he was…. Injury lingered? There’s many more players, even 2 freshman, better AT THIS STAGE. I can’t see a franchise taking a chance on the “potential” of Ace with that high in the draft in...
Alot of time on the drive back from Indiana got me thinking. About one and dones.
Can the NBA use Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey and Cooper Flag to change the one and done to two and done. Where a NBA team can subsidize a play and pay the player for a 2nd year to stay at the school they last played for in place of going to the G developmental league since power conference...
Not sure about POY, but probably hops Edgecomb at worst.
It's really helped him having strong defenders around him. He's got like three better defenders on the floor with him at all times. I've been impressed he's kept his TO rate pretty low. Question is, do the SAS keep all the guards and keep him in that role for a couple years?
Fox will be out I believe. Mentor the younger guards until they mature a bit more. Dylan eventually moves into the starting PG role Castle goes to the sixth man role. Just an opinion
Oooh, don't know that it makes sense that they ever swap Dylan and Castle when they are both flourishing in current roles. I see them more playing together interchangeably at both positions.
He wasn’t that awful on D at RU it was just that a) his usage on offense was off the charts so he didn’t have enough in the tank to be a difference maker on D and b) he was a frosh - adjusting to the speed of the game (more D is actually played in college than in the NBA) and c) the front court D was really the problem last year. I’d argue - Ace didn’t look great out there but he was far and away our best front court defender overall.
This leads into the remaining premise that the frontcourt D remains a problem that hasn’t been sufficiently addressed. Trading Grant for a comparably poor defender in Smith isn’t going to help much unless Sydnor / Buchanan provide more support at the 3/4 than we got supporting Grant last year. Gurdack will be servicable on D, but I wouldn’t say that’s a strength.
He wasn't great on D last year, but still was amongst our best defenders, point was, good defensive players around a guy make you look much better whether you are good or average.
We need to hope that Syndor is a big upgrade defensively over Grant and that Gurdak will be better at the help aspect and pure post D than EO was, as we know he's not quite the rebounder or shot blocker. Realistically, we probably just moved our worst defender from the 4 spot to the 3 in Smith and will be just OK at the other spot. It is safe to say that back up 5 defense has been upgraded, maybe the only defensive upgrade overall.
Yes to the last part, but on the same hand, we’ve downgraded our ability to defend the handful of 5 out style teams we’ll face in conference because we currently don’t have a guy who can fill the role Dortch played against those opponents. I feel we could really use to add one more defensive piece to the frontcourt.

I saw 3rd quarter and into 4th quarter only of this game, but I thought Dylan looked great. Carried the offense for a portion of the game. Very efficient and makes it look effortless.
