OrangeForever is the dumbest man I've never met.
Patently untrue.Wait, Lincoln had slaves and the Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in southern states. At his death, more than 2 years after the EP Abraham Lincoln owned roughly a dozen slaves. They were freed by his death.
When does his monugent come down?
I'm willing to bet he the only piece of paper he got from Clemson was a rejection letter, and he has a junior college degree. Amirite??
Confederates and Nazis are basically the same. Got their asses kicked by the red white and blue
The libs in America are a much better comparison to the Nazis & I guess they'll have to be the next to get their asses kicked by the red, white, & blue....b/c let's face it, no group has ever hated America as much as them...Confederates and Nazis are basically the same. Got their asses kicked by the red white and blue
Don't know. I'm assuming he went to Clemson.
Not only did he not go to Clemson, he doesn't even have a bachelor's degree. Just like most liberals. No education at all.
Do you really think Abraham Lincoln owned slaves or are you just trolling? It was against the law for an IL citizen to own slaves within the state of IL.
Can you provide evidence of this? Every search I do is coming up that Lincoln did, in fact, not own any slaves, but I'm not sure if he actually did or not.Wait, Lincoln had slaves and the Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in southern states. I really don't care if there are statues of Lee or Jackson around. That isn't what matters here as much as it is the intent and thought process (really the lack thereof) of the removal of these monuments. There's a profound stupidity that is being enabled in our country. It's really no different than what other totalitarian regimes have done throughout history to change or alter history. One need only look around the world and throughout history to see which people are the ones that remove monuments or try to take away references to history. If that's the company those people wish to keep, I am happy to be on the other side. It is the province of evil.
Further, there's only one person here who mentioned race in all this. It's the usual suspect who likes to condescend and stir the pot from the lowest basement around. That makes me sad because it does nothing but shine a bright light of stupidity for all to see.
Our history is important. Who we are, where we have come from and what we have done right and wrong are all things that we should study and appreciate. We have come so far in certain areas and in many others, we have fallen so far. There is very seldom anything progressive about progressive thought. It is often a linear, single minded pursuit of group think and intolerance. It's a shame we've headed so far in that direction.
So while taking monuments of Robert E. Lee down won't change history, it does take away a reminder of mistakes made and triumphs achieved. We are a people that have come far. Unfortunately, we've repaved the roads of the past with our ignorance and anger and now we're headed right back to where we started in so many ways. A statue isn't going to change that but it's a shame that we won't know the eyes of history when we see them so they can provide us warning when we stray back into troubled waters.
Funny how the Libs forget about that little piece of history. There are many other monuments in the D.C area that will need to come down while we're at it...
@jimbob1019, keep up man. I think you are supposed you join @CLT-Tiger
Also, glad you made it clear that you find slavery abhorrent. Because that's totally not just an assumed thing normal human beings agree on. AMIRITE @FreeSC
Made it two pages without someone giving a history lesson on how the civil war wasn't about slavery. Has to be a record.
If this is true then why the need to remove monuments. Or rename buildings. Or ...
But I agree with you. These moves recently had nothing to do with slavery and are just a group that is pushing its agenda under other pretenses. That is what you are inferring right?
As a Jew are you happy about ISIS destroying historic monuments to the Jewish and heritage? Just trying to connect some dot that you may relate too.Honestly... What?
Dude, we get you enjoy politics...You are the only snowflake ITT complaining about a statue (in another state no less) being taken down.
EDIT: Well, now you've got a few snowflake buddies. You should start a group or something. You guys can sit around and whine together about all the statues you were hoping to show your kids depicting slaver heroes that won't be around anymore.
Can you snowflakes on both sides stop worrying about meaningless BS like this and focus on the critical plights upon modern society... like excessive income taxes?
I checked Abraham Lincoln's US Census records and he did not own any slaves. I knew the fact that he came of Illinois the chances would be very low. I would say that that many white people on this message board whose ancestry lived in the south during that time likely owned slaves. I have an ancestor who captained a slave ship and was part of the slave trade, and I have ancestors who helped get slaves out of Kentucky to freedom by getting them across the Ohio River into the non-slave state of Ohio. As a genealogist I have read newspapers from this time where they advertised the buying and selling of slaves like they were selling furniture, and it is sickening to read, yet that was the mentality of many during this time.
Yet wiping out monuments of Civil War generals is not the answer that will make everyone feel good again. In historical events, you learn from your mistakes and move on to make things better. Regardless of whether you believe the cause of that war was only about slavery, or that was just one of several issues that led to war, taking down these monuments will not erase the fact of the war. My DNA test shows that I don't have one ounce of native American (0%) genes in me, but would say that the native Americans have the best argument in stripping away all this culture we shoved down their throats. You think that mountain in their native lands in South Dakota with the presidents carved in it makes them feel good to look at. What if the protest to have the carving removed, because I know Teddy Roosevelt didn't do them any favors by violating their lands for oil revenues.
I say again about the things Lincoln said about African Americans (slaves) and calling them inferior to the white man. Why should he have a monument?
Soooo....your first sentence stated that you don't care. But then you write a couple of paragraphs to back up the fact that you don't care?
Listen man, the south lost the war and these monuments are glorifying the losers of that war. It's akin to a participation trophy for the confederates. Taking them down is the proper thing to do since we don't celebrate losers in America.
Now if schools stop teaching our children about the Civil War, then you can get back on here and complain about people trying to erase history and I would agree with you. Until then the only thing I see in your post is a whole lot of whining and crying.
Have a hard day snowflake?
Yep. These statues were the worlds first participation trophies.Confederates and Nazis are basically the same. Got their asses kicked by the red white and blue
Lincoln did not own slaves. Not true. The EP changed the way the war was fought. The North now had a a moral cause to fight the war which led Freed Blacks to join the Union cause. Lincoln fought hard for the passage of the 13th Amendment which did end slavery. Lincoln thought that slavery was morally wrong.Wait, Lincoln had slaves and the Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in southern states. Not sure you know what "snowflake" means.
Not sure I do either anymore. The lines are being blurred from both sides. Not sure you know what "snowflake" means.
Lots of times! All the butthurt snowflake white men freaking out about statues!?! It's the best thread ever everytime.
@FreeSC come on down!
What?Wait, Lincoln had slaves and the Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in southern states. At his death, more than 2 years after the EP Abraham Lincoln owned roughly a dozen slaves. They were freed by his death.
When does his monugent come down?
They don't want the statues, they want revenge. As soon as the statues are down, it will be on to the next symbol of oppression... until what?
That's the question. It will come down to two things: It will either end with all symbols of the confederacy being torn away, or it will extend to all corners of American history, because so much of America was built on the backs of Black slaves. Actually, the entire history of the Western world was written thanks to slave labor, but were stretching it thin at that point.
I think it ends with Confederate monuments. America won't let its heroes be dishonored, however hypocritical that may be
I think you're spot on with the first paragraph. It's not about slavery, it's about perpetuating grievance, getting revenge, making people look and feel bad.
But unless it's sarcasm, the second paragraph is off. America was not built on the backs of slaves. The Southern economy? Certainly. Some Northern corporations and/or companies? Yes....to a degree. But the country as a whole? No.
yoOhhhh myyyyy.
You sir are a racist.....beachtiger
I mean 1, you should probably delete your account for this post. And 2, the overwhelming majority of Holocaust deniers are white Christians.
But regardless, I'm just glad we found another snowflake to join @CLT-Tiger to discuss how in the world they can continue teaching their children about their slaver heroes without their slaver statues.
Wasn't that "The Country As A Whole"! Homework; Let's see US Slavery Of Blacks Started_____/US Slavery Of Blacks Ended _______?
Given the political climate, it's seems less than likely that you are ever gonna get your wish.
