I never watched the NBA or Kobe play, but he was such a role model, especially in the LA area. Dude was about to blow up as a businessman. Investments and such...

This is sickening. I’m heartbroken over it for his family. He was amazing to watch. I’m actually pretty shaken right now. I was just watching highlight videos of him last night with Lebron passing him in points.

Don’t care if you liked him as a player or not, this is terrible news. I don’t know how you can’t be sad if you’re truly a basketball fan.
Im shaken and was never a fan...horrible, his and the other passenger's family...losing parents and daughters
im almost in tears

Such sad news. It's also being reported that his 13 year old daughter was also killed. Prayers going out to the Bryant family.

Terrible news. I truly feel heart ache for his wife and children. The shock of Kobe being taken away unexpectedly will be extremely hard for them to cope with.

I lost my dad to a sudden accident 18 years ago and I still feel that sick feeling when I think about what happened.

I pray that they look to God for comfort and direction because he's the only one who can give it in a time like this.

ESPN is now reporting it was Kobe and his daughter going to one of her ball games. They report two others killed were another player on the team and the player’s parent.

The distance between where Kobe was and where they were flying was only between 10-15 miles, but even traffic on a Sunday with his schedule meant he had to fly to get there.

So sad. Probably the most devastating sports tragedy in my lifetime. Ever since I was a little kid I remembered seeing him on TV. Even sadder that one of his daughters passed with him. My thoughts and prayers to his surviving family and friends. Even people who don't care about sports at all know who Kobe Bryant is.

Kobe got to experience life to the fullest in his 41 years. Awful his daughter was taken before she got the same.

Just random rambling thoughts from me that don’t really mean anything:

If I’m messing around playing basketball, even if by myself, if I take a wild shot or difficult shot I sometimes reflexively say “Kobe” as I’m about to shoot. I’ve done that for, hell I don’t know, 15 years? That’s gonna feel a lot different now.

The man was a straight magician at nailing just unimaginably difficult shots.

I never watch the NBA and I honestly wasn’t a big fan of Kobe’s but even I don’t know how to process this. This has to be one of the most tragic and unexpected losses for the sports world in my lifetime. I can’t imagine what his family is going through right now having to bury him and a daughter. Absolutely gut wrenching. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this unbelievable time. Just in complete shock!

I still can’t believe this ****. I remember thinking not long ago at how good Kobe’s daughter was gonna be and was actually looking forward to her playing in college.

My friends and I at work would do the same, anytime one of us would do some sort of shot, a paper ball in a trash can hell even just throwing a toy ball at each other we just yell out Kobe right afterwards

Grew up watching Kobe my entire life. Was 4 when he was drafted. Have an old jersey hanging in my closet and one sealed in the bag, old poster and numerous basketball cards. Very numbing when I got the news. Not something I expected to read about until about 50 or 60 years old. I remember reading a thread here before joining about whether people would watch his last game or the Warriors break the Bulls record. No brainer for me. Watched Kobe hang 60 on Utah going out in style. Have video file of the old game on my hard drive. Prayers with his wife and children behind. May the Lord be with them.

Coroner will gather remains and contact the families involved. The sheriff is not happy with TMZ, calling their news "holy inappropriate".

It took me years to appreciate and acknowledge Kobe as one of the greatest to ever play. A true competitor on both sides of the ball. Gut wrenching to see any family lose a father/husband and daughter/sibling. Prayers for his family as well as the families of the others lost in the accident. Good reminder of why we need to hug our families and tell them we love them any chance we get.
