Even though ESPN was verifying, they were still too slow to remove the "Lebron passes Kobe" headlines.

What a terrible situation.

Look in the sky. What natural thing up there aerodynamically looks like a plane?? Now find something that looks like a helicopter...that’s your answer.

Coming from someone who flew them. If you lose the power source then you’re a rock falling. Only hope is to conduct a successful autorotation which is essentially converting potential to kinetic energy at the last second to cushion the impact; small skid Helos you can slide it on gently if you nail it.

But civilian pilots don’t get reps at practicing autos
Thanks for sharing your insight, can't imagine the fear of those on board, absolutely terrifying to think about.

Seems surreal. Thats most of our entire childhoods/adult lives of basketball. Makes you feel like you know them when you’ve followed them for 30ish years.

One of the all time greats.

Hate it for his girls. He really seemed to had found purpose the last few years in trying to be the best dad he could be and spending time w his family. We’ve all made mistakes but he seemed to have his priorities in the right place since retirement. Condolences and Godspeed to the family

Seems like it’s growing more and more accurate. That’s horrible news.

The man was a fantastic basketball player and extremely charitable. He had his major screwups to be sure and was reportedly a little bit arrogant (but he could back it up).

He had also reportedly mellowed a bit in recent years.

The man was only 41 years old. I’m 36. That really puts fragility in perspective. Yes, I’ve lost both parents. But when someone close to your age dies like that? It gives me pause and chills.

So long Mr. Bryant. You will be missed. Rest well in the Father sir.

EDIT: And his four daughters? This is part of the times where I stay awake into the we hours of the morning arguing and wrestling with my God. None of us are perfect and we all deserve an eternal punishment (hence the need for a Savior) but man, to lose your family like that in one blow. Of course Kobe and his daughters will be fine- but any surviving members will be gut wrenched. Job is my least favorite book of the Bible. I’ve read it so many times and still look at God an go “I get it. But ALL his family?” Have mercy on us Father. And be with the Bryant family.

RIP, sad day for the sports world. He just congratulated Lebron on passing him on the scoring list at 10:30 last night.

No problem. W a plane at altitude, you have pretty high odds of gliding to an airfield and landing. (Again, civilian pilots aren’t practicing the this all the time to hit and maintain the textbook air speeds at the altitude checkpoint. So it’s tougher)

Nothing of major concern with multi engine though bc you just kill an engine and increase power in the others to pick up the slack. So ppl should stress too much on major commercial flights
