Anytime the NYT criticizes you wear it like a badge of honor.
He was a character. Never saw him live but have heard that sometimes he’d come out having decided that he was gonna do the whole night covering one other artist and not do a single one of his own songs. Guy I know saw him someplace near Harrisburg and he did a whole night of Elvis stuff. My buddy was not pleased.
How much hard living outlaw life style could he have actually been partaking of to live to 86? Could it have been an act?

you make a good point, although Willy was not into hard drugs like Mick and Keith, but then again could that have been an act as well? Dean martin's drunk act was all act and apple juice
Mick routinely had his blood funneled out and cleaned and Keith is Keith. No acts, just money and luck.

I don't know, Keith Richards is 82 and that guy should have been dead 50 years ago with everything he did ! So people just have good genes.
Everyone knows Keith lived it. Nobody has a clue as to whether good old Edgar Allen Poe or whoever this thread is about was legitimately an outlaw.
He was or at least on of his songs was. I think he must have only done it live as now a days it would easily be deemed offensive. So I figure that’s why I can’t find it again
Back in the Napster days of yore, I downloaded a couple of his songs that KKK wizards would have blushed listening to. The title was one of those that you just have to listen to...........once.............then delete.
Every half assed bar band on the summer lake circuit in Wisconsin plays this song at least once late in evening and all the drunks, and this is Wisconsin so professional level drunk, sing along at the top of their lungs. And when band done they will play it again on jukebox if there is one
