It is a long season and if Rutgers goes .500 in conference and wins a game in the Big 10 Tourney they are going to make NCAA.
That might have been true had RU won the three out of conference games they were favored in
Now, they have to win a couple over .500 in league to be considered, and we threw an opportunity away yesterday to move in that direction

You can analyze all you want with numbered talking points and talk conditioning and recruiting, and I appreciate your observations I’m Bad.

But as DanPrusa said earlier, while some points may be true, we win or lose based on the play of Geo and Ron, period end….if they shoot well we win and Pike coaches well, if they don’t we lose….
It’s quite simple.

Many of you fail to realize that the other team can disrupt or change what you want to do and sometimes you don’t figure it out. PSU is very good at making teams uncomfortable and forcing teams away from what they are successful at. They did just that with Geo and Ron and the team didn’t figure it out. It’s that simple. Learn from it and move on to the next team.

1st time seeing them in person. A few observations

1 Do we have strength and conditioning. Completely manhandled and backed down to the basket again and again. They grabbed balls like men and we poked at them. Pushed us away from the basket again with ease.
2 Back to dribbling and dribbling to nowhere. Heads down not looking for teammates.
3 Slow defenders beat off the dribble with ease
4 Cliff's hands need a lot of work. Faith he will get there
5 Reiber...sorry...not b10 player still...not close. Slow and weak
6. Palmquist see #5
7. Mag needs his teeth back cuz he would have helped
8 Crowd a complete non factor...nothing... easy place to play...and we play like we r scared
9 If u can't win at Penn state ur in trouble
10 Harrar is just solid...not flashy but does a lot of things right
11 Defending the 3 hasn't been taught yet.
12 Free throws many not even close.

Bottom line I hate to doubt Pike, but without major influx of transfer talent, next year will be abysmal. We r not an ncaa team...just not. Way too many bad habits.
I think you’re just mad because you drove out to Penn State to witness a bad game.

I mentioned this early in the yr. It's obvious are players don't put real work in the weight room. Improving your strength and conditioning is a sign of how much you want it. Our players are out having fun in the off-season - not focused on improving. Geo and Ron damn near still have freshmen bodies. Its kinda crazy 🤣
Weight room is overrated for bball. But cardio is very important. Players always think lifting weights will mess up their shooting stroke but the team looks out of shape.

Great theory but… they stink. So, even if they wanted to “disrupt or change” what we did the fact that they did it so successfully is an indictment on the squad and our coaching

And if Ron and Geo hit their shots at even at what we’d all consider a decent rate, we’d have won and the challenges the PSU defense presented would have been magically diminished.
Our success is totally dependent on their play, one or both have to play like an all-star or we lose

I have friends there too. I was just joking with the Professor.
Except for that time they flipped a news van and stormed the presidents office because the university fired a patron saint coach that presided over a 3 decade child abuse scandal. Other than that, good kids

To be fair there are 30k students there. Most were in their rooms trying to sleep or study and were pissed at the dopes.

Zappaa’s nieces are good kids I’m sure. The kids I know who went are good kids. Some of the middle aged fans are pompous douchers and I’m sure many students are not good kids in a school of that size. Does that cover it for everyone? Lol

Yea maybe. But ask a penn stater about joe paterno. Their response is weird. It’s like asking Robert e Lee’s great great grandkids what they think of the south in the civil war

More like 40K+ nowadays undergrad. Might be pushing 50K incl. grad students. As time goes by, the JoeBots will phase out but it appears JoePa's legacy, for good or bad, will probably remain.

As a point of comparison, Rutgers-NB is now up to 50K students with an undergrad/grad split of 36K/14K.

That’s fair. If you feel the need to blame someone on RU, Ron and Geo are to blame. I also say the coaches didn’t figure it out. Blame them too. I just believe PSU (who just beat Indiana and almost Purdue) locked up RU. Tip the cap to them, learn and move on to the next game.

He's a prof at PSU so he's already stuck out there in crappy valley, it's not for the faint of heart. He didn't make the drive out from Jersey or elsewhere.

That's false. The 3 losses that have been discussed ad nauseum will keep us out in your scenario. You're living in a fantasy world if you think 17-15 gets the NCAA Tournament.

Asking a current PSU student about Joe Paterno, would be like asking current Rutgers students about Dick Anderson.
As for arrogance, would the average Temple football fan find our fanbase aloof towards them…it’s the byproduct of getting your *** kicked every time we play

I don’t like to use the word blame.
I know it’s a fine line, but when you’re playing hard and play poorly it is what it is.

In the ‘60s the Princeton students rioted for some reason (horniness)?, and they pushed the Dinky off its tracks. Those Princeton lads are investment bankers and orthopedic surgeons now.

I am not going to start the NCAAs discussion in early to mid January, but it is practically impossible to not make the NCAAs if RU is 10-10 in this league.

I don't have the time, nor energy, but if I list the schedule and any fan picks 7 more wins, you either are going to pick road wins against teams that are going to likely miss the NCAAs OR you are going to add wins to the equation against NCAA teams right now.

Fans can't have it both ways.....you either have quality wins (home) or road/neutral wins.....I am not in the prediction business but common sense and the eye-test tells me there are likely 8 to 9 NCAA caliber teams in the B1G right now......10 would be a stretch and would require other leagues like the ACC to have a shorter list.....

But playing Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, Penn State, Maryland and Wisconsin twice....playing Ohio State, Michigan State, Indiana once isn't going to land without quality resume of wins shown.....there are too many Top 5 to 30 teams on the schedule.

If RU is under .500 in league, it means they have not won enough games against similar competition. It's not overly complicated.

Except if the Penn State student was a legacy or grew up raised by a die hard Penn State family.

I know too many Penn State fans or alums. Many of them are reasonable but I don’t think all of them have let go of Paterno.

10-10 puts them at 16-14 overall....that is not a ncaa team, RU would have to probably make the Big 10 tourney semi finals in that case which would mean knocking off one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the quarters...

Seems like 18-15 puts us on the bubble and 19-15 gets us in. It would be nice to play that Rider game. Despite the lack of a quad boost, the better optics could help as a bubble tie-breaker.

Tell Kevin Durant he needs to lift weights.
To me it highly depends on body type as to the degree to bulk up and carry more muscle weight. KD is a great example of elite hoops player with a smaller frame compared to someone like Karl Malone. I agree with you that conditioning and fitness is paramount.

Do you think we could get another game against someone else if Rider doesn't work out?

It is a comparison to other leagues and other quality wins.....I know the theory is 10-10 won't do it, but the SOS is not based on 16-14.....it could be 17-14 if they scheduled Rider or 18-14 or 19-15 etc.....

If RU has 3 wins against ranked opponents (I will assume RU does well enough at home to defeat a Michigan State, Ohio State, or Illinois) to go along with Purdue, it comes down to common sense.

Maybe the SEC gets 10 bids. Who knows.....maybe the Big 12 gets 8.....long way to go....

common sense says RU fared poorly in the out of conference play, just getting a few big wins in the Big 10 will not cut it, see Indiana a few years back and they played a tough ooc schedule while RUs is ranked like 300.
