I say leave it up there. We are bigger people than Rick. We shouldn't respond in the same juvenile way he responded today. Let him be a petty and classless idiot, not us.

I'll tell you what SHOULD happen though... that banner he won at UL while using hookers to recruit should he taken down. The NCAA should make them take it down. It was won by players who received impermissible benefits and were, therefore, ineligible, so take it down. Boom!

I wish his and Farmer's banners could come down, but I think you set some sort of precedent by taking Pitino's banner down. That means all of the sudden you have to make character judgements on banners going up instead of basing it on athletic accomplishments.

I do think it needs to be taken down. But respectfully relocated elsewhere. I think about how Cals previous school(s) refused to honor him due to things that did or did not happen. I think Pitino has done enough to not 'entirely disregard' what he did for us, but to maybe recognize his accomplishments in a different way. Maybe in the future if he rights his wrongs in some way, or when he passes away then we consider putting it up again out of respect. Until then i dont think it belongs up there with names who have had, for the most part, honorable careers/lives.

I've been a UK fan for 48 years. To even start a thread like this is ridicules, The man brought us from the ashes to a national championship. I'm not a Pitino fan, but you have to respect what he did for us! At the time he took the job it wasn't like coaches were lining up to take the job, because they weren't. If I remember right Lute Olson, PJ Carlisamo and some others did not want the job. Let's be fair give the man credit for what he did!

Fan yelled "one and done" at him. He threw up an "L", not the bird. Source = I was there
In order for him to throw up that silly L that they throw up, his thumd would have to be out. Instead his thumb is in, making a circle with his index finger, like how when some people throw up the middle finger or three goggles. Source = I'm looking at the picture with my own two eyes.

Not to mention, when asked about it, Pitino never mentioned anything about throwing up the L. He made a stupid joke and said that he was telling the fans that we (UofL) are #1.

Beat me to it!! Everything you said is spot on.
Looking At the pic, it is clear he is not
Throwing up the "L" to a fan.
Ricks denial and snide remark is complete BS, as usual.

Ya know every team has their idiots. We're no exception. The guy brought us back from obscurity. So what he flipped off a fan big deal. It was probably nutz on the rail guy or some dude who just dropped 80 bones on beer. The dude is an fn retard. Keep his banner up. Sure he's brought a lot of it on himself. I don't see umass protesting cals banner after he made them a national force. Let it be

I wonder if Bozich and Forde dumping Pitino in has anything to do with the New York Times and TMZ being at the game? They don't want to look like the hack local writers who support the crooked local coach.

Your family doesn't know anything about letter jackets either because there aren't any and you have no degree or you wouldnt act like you do.. Keep responding to yourself with your slugger account.. You are both on Ignore. You post nothing day in and day out but Pitino obsession. Get a grip.
bye bye...

I say get it down this weekend. The man was paid well to do what he did while at UK. It makes me sick seeing that low class banner hanging from Rupp Arena. Take it to Louisville & let them hang it in their place.

There must have been multiple incidents. i read a UK media type saying Rick reacted to a 9-1 chant, but what I heard and saw was one single guy getting to Rick with " one and done".

Anyway, I googled pics and did see one of him throwing up his ring finger with the bird's ship on it. Mind posting the middle finger one? I can't seem to find it. Busy hands on that guy though, L's, ring finger flashing, bird.....

I say leave it up. not to honor him , but because his greatest time as a coach (self admitted) was during this time. the banner represents that to him. but this idiot can't even walk in the building and admire it or reflect on it without getting booed out of the building. all because he is a egotistical jerk and knows it.

let it hang so we can remember that great time not the name. he is a part of a history that he cherishes. and all because of himself , the man has to cherish it from afar. almost like having kids and once you get older and they grow up and find out you are this slimball, not this great hero you made them believe. and now they basically disown you. I'm sure one day he will be standing outside Rupp with Xmas gifts begging to be let back in and forgiven lol.

him throwing up his ring finger with the bird's ship on it.
Now this could actually be true. In the picture you can't tell 100% which finger it is. I just know it wasn't an "L" because of his thumb being in and making a circle with his index finger. I guess it could have been his ring finger instead of middle finger.

And, maybe him saying that he said they were #1 wasn't a snide joke. He could have meant that he flashed his ring finger with the championship ring on it. I could actually buy that.

Oh Christ, what's worse: people that don't believe he knew about the hookers or don't believe he shot the Rupp crowd the finger.

You are an idiot if you buy into either (he didn't know about hookers or didnt "shoot the bird")

Dude is a piece of s*** and a jackass

Go shake his hand then. He's been the coach of our bitter rival a lot longer than he was the coach here, and he's even got a stupid Cardinal tattoo on his back. He walks out of his last game at RUPP Arena flipping off the UK fans. The man is history in my book. For now anyway.

I have shaken his hand and thanked him for all he did for us before he left for Boston. In addition, I would also do the same today. I feel quite sure he would say leaving Kentucky was the biggest mistake of his life, just like he ALWAYS does when he's asked.

Also, it's not much of a rivalry to me when Kentucky is ALWAYS supposed to win that game in every sport. Shame on Kentucky for dropping the ball in football

So you're ok with a banner in Rupp honoring him and him saying &*!@#!! to the UK fans? Really? Not me. Bad enough he chose to go to Louisville. Bad enough he got a U of L tattoo. But to give the finger at Rupp to UK fans. Nope. You don't deserve to be honored at Rupp.

Yes because I'm old enough to not only remember, but appreciate what he did for Kentucky. That banner represents his years at Kentucky NOT Louisville.

Rick's worst nightmare was Cal coming to UK and it happened. I honestly think when Rick took the UL job he thought that the UK fans would still like him because he thinks he's bigger than the program.

I think I remember years ago on his way out of Boston he said that when the local media turns on you it's time to go. I've been waiting on that to happen here and it looks like it is. Merry Christmas everybody.

I am not sure he will get the option to determine when he leaves the Louisville program.

It shouldn't have been put up to start with. It was a foolish decision to put a jersey in the rafters for a still active coach. Now that it has been done, the only way to correct the mistake is to take it down. For those of you who want to keep it up I say if it stays up to change it to a UL jersey. Pitino is UL first and always and has no loyalty to UK. At least all of the other names in Rupp's Rafters have some loyalty to our team. Or did when they were alive.

Take it down; he's done nothing but spit in the face of every UK fan and embarrassed his school as well as college basketball as a whole. He doesn't belong up there with Rupp and especially Coach Cal.

“I don’t like losing, especially to these guys,” Pitino told Valvano. “It upsets me about as much as anything. I have to go out and see a high school tournament tonight, which I’m not looking forward to. I’ve got a day or two off, and I’m not going to enjoy myself after this loss. That being said, I’m proud of these guys, the way they fight. But we’ve got to understand we’ve got Wake Forest coming up. We hate losing to this basketball team.”

suck on that Card fans. Keep pretending ricky doesn't care about the UK game. You know how to read zipp ? These quotes mean anything to you ?

Not a huge Bozich fan, but I agree with everything in his article. Rick could heal a lot of wounds if he handled the situation properly. Instead, he keeps acting like a child that can't stand to lose. I believe that he sees the writing on the wall, with the scandal still looming.
the clock is ticking for ESCORTino and he knows it,,He's a sad shell of a human being.
