Was that before the Northern Illinois game?
A home night game. Pregame speeches are an overrated thing. Summoning emotion is a limited ploy. Games are won and lost in the spring and fall camps and in an individuals drive.
In 95, Colorado came up with a plethora of emotional antics before the game. Nu' s first offensive play Green took it to the house and then we proceed to take the Buffs apart.

KD is a fan

This is a piece of the puzzle. Instilling the attitude and the culture to overcome adversity and win. Overcome doubt and fear from past failed expectations.

Of course they are putting in the work, but the mental side of it cannot be minimized.

Will Compton liked it. Surely he can see through cheap ploys to motivate. When youre down 14-0 in the 1st quarter, you don’t hang your head and throw in the towel. You keep battling, mostly for the guy next to you in the trenches. You don’t let him down

Assume northern ILL. Loved the speech and the fire. People poo pooing pre game motivational speeches? Come on....this is one of the greatest things about sports. If you aren't motivated by stuff like this I kindof feel bad for you.

Lol. Nice try. The camera wasn't following him and it wasn't a team meeting.

I absolutely love how other fanbases troll us. Yep, we still got it boys!

1000000000000%. Anyone minimizing the emotional aspect of football must've never played. Nebraska hasn't won the mental side of the game for years. Rhule gets it.

To an extent. My coach in college was one of those guys. It worked on freshmen but even then only for a couple of games. After a while we'd be laughing at it -- here he goes again! It loses it's effectiveness quickly

“I had my first team meeting last night. I’m one of those guys, I don’t let cameras in, there won’t be a camera following me around,” said Rhule. “I want it to always be (about) the players.”
You literally made an account last September just to take a shot at Trev, turtled for over a year, and then finally stuck your neck back out to make *this* your 2nd post? Can’t wait to see what kernel of brilliance you’ll have for us next fall.

I think it just depends on whether it’s authentic. They’ll sniff it out if it’s phony but it works if it’s real and connected to how they’re feeling at the time.

One of the most underrated sports movies, One On One. I love how the veterans endure it but the freshman, played by Robbie Benson is all wide eyed.

^^^. All the stuff he talks about are the principles he and the staff are trying to build on. Focus on each rep/not the score. Leave it all out there with your brothers. Have each others back.

It’s not opponent specific or anything crazy like that. It’s the stuff he’s pounding into them culturally.

Getting a shout from KD ain’t all bad. May be better if it was Mahommes or Josh Allen but KD has a reach :)

I will say this about 'motivational speeches'. Every time I've heard Tony Robbins give one I was motivated to throw a rotten tomato at his face.

This is a sentiment shared by many pros, as well.

I don’t get the feeling Rhule does this before every game, though.

I’m like you, I’ve never bought the rah, rah. Never believed motivation at game time means much, everyone wants to win at game time. But a team needs a focus, a clear vision and a clear message. Rhule seems good at that.

Kind of odd to me that he would give such a fiery and dramatic speech before playing a mid-level MAC team at home.
I think that’s kind of the point to me. As a leader, he’s gotta know the right time to do it and so he sensed they needed it. Hopefully we finally have a head coach with his hand on the pulse.

You didn’t win many games, did you?

This is the kind of thinking that is 10 years out of date amongst Nebraska fans. We were 0-2 and have no business assuming that any game is a W. Nebraska can easily lose to a mid-level MAC team. Maybe that's why Rhule did it, to send the message that no game is a gimme.

Meh?
Not a big inspirational speech maker are you?
Try, meh, if we die, we die.
Over your head.

Everything you said in your initial post amounted to “meh.” You weren’t impressed at all.

That’s why I changed it in your post, to better communicate your feelings about it.

He didn't want to lose the team. Right time, indeed.
