I get the point of the thread I just have a different opinion than you. This isn’t group think it’s a message board
He has the one of the most veteran teams because of his retention. He has a top recruiting class because of his efforts and his staff. Honestly every coach we’ve had in the last 20 years has these friends on staff that’s how coaching works it’s a fraternity to list those off would be its own post

A veteran team of losers nobody else at our level wants and a yet-to-be-signed "top" recruiting class after 4 years on the job? That's your facts to back up Rhule being a good CEO, good at NIL and a good ambassador?

Wow, it's no wonder we suck! If our fanbase is able to somehow buy that as Rhule being a good coach, man, I got a bridge to sell you. Glad to hear your (sh*tty) opinion was arrived at through critical thinking and not group think, though.

Oh, and to the hiring your friends point, of course they do. The difference is winners surround themselves with their winner friends. Ours surrounds himself with his loser friends. Or his winner friends' kids, or anyone who sucks worse than him so they don't upstage him by actually being competent and producing results. Huge difference.

Let me know on that bridge.

Bill Callahan wasn’t wrong when he said “you people need to get a life”. He was surprised if not shocked about the 24/7/12 obsession of Husker fans. It’s like living and working in a fishbowl in Lincoln. If you live and work in many other college and NFL communities you’re surrounded by tens of thousands of people who may not know or care who you are or what you do. Matt Rhule walks in to Applebees in Lincoln and everybody turns and stares at the very least. Undoubtedly there’s at least one macho man in the place that asks where his backwards hat is at or why he called a timeout when he did?

Every big-time college football program is in a fishbowl. That's why they get paid millions of dollars.

Sure I’ll take the bridge
I take it you won’t be at any of the games on Saturdays in Lincoln or on the road? To watch the “losers”?

Not all like Nebraska. A few. Nebraska is over the top. Bama, maybe OSU, Texas can’t think of many more. Small city, no other P4 teams, no pro teams, history of success and thousands of fans whose sense of self worth is affected by the football team’s performance.

Every SEC college town except Nashville and is in a fishbowl, and even smaller than Lincoln. I can promise you every SEC head coach other than Vandy's cannot walk into the local Applebee's without people noticing.

If you can't handle that, go coach at Chadron State for 50 grand a year in front of crowds of 200 people. You're getting paid $8 million/year, and it's because of the fans that keep showing up even when you put a crappy product on the field

Nah man, you have to hire complete strangers at every position, you can’t build up connections and utilize those people! Don’t be silly

I get what you're saying, but our situation being “special” is very overrated. Lots of schools with just as big and just as rabid of fanbases that make them just as much of a fishbowl. Maybe more. Having now been out of Nebraska and around some other programs in several states, I've come to realize that was just something we Nebraskans liked to say to make ourselves feel special.

Most of the top 5ish or so programs in each of the P4 conferences are pretty similar. As @Harry Caray mentioned, almost all of the SEC minus Vandy. Pretty much all blue bloods minus maybe USC, but they have their own set of unique factors that make them a different kind of fishbowl. Definitely all fringe blue bloods, which is part of what makes them on the cusp of being blue bloods...they give a sh*t. And a couple outside of that. The list is a lot longer than you think.

Weird stance when most of Rhule's "connections" have pretty much sucked and the ones that aren't have either been some of his best hires (and have since left), or are currently our only promising ones. Compare the list of his hires that he's coached with before NU against the list of his hires that he's never coached with before.

Maybe have better "connections" if you want to try to utilize those people.

I think whoever was in charge of hiring athletic directors and football coaches over an extended period of time is really the issue. Poor evaluators at the very top of the food chain in Lincoln
Yeah it's not the fans, lack of resources, or even barriers to entry. It's the board and management. That's the problem

having Joel Makovicka on the board as the football poster child and vision of the football team is exactly what's wrong. They picture the football program to be blue collar walk-on, now known as cheap labor. That vision doesn't win in today's football landscape

—-Spent half the podcast talking about Baylor. 4 years in we should be able to pull info from the Huskers accomplishments, key plays, anything?!

—Admin told him to shut down the pod and sounded like Macafee too. I think he and Troy are hitting some conflicts. Still think it’s odd he didn’t thank Troy in his BIG media address.

— Rhule was apparently trying to decided between Oregon and Baylor job at the time of the hire??

It’s time to freaking win some games we aren’t supposed to. I still believe in Rhule and I will probably be the guy falling off the titanic hitting the propellers on the way to my demise. HCMR don’t make a bigger fool of me than I already am!

“We basically purchased the asset,” Dannen said in an interview an interview with the Journal Star. “Whether it’s the podcast, which we are not doing this year, or — Matt has spent a lot of time actively fundraising, actively promoting things inside the department that you could say falls underneath of that agreement. Who only knows how it might actually operationalize itself moving forward, but it’s an asset that was captured and can be monetized as we choose to monetize it.”

Rhules “connections” have all been GARBAGE. And any one that he wasn’t connected to, he ran off. The guy is a soft, phony, grifter who’s PROVEN to be an average coach, below average if you look at his record against good teams. His resume spells that out perfectly. The fact that a lot of you don’t see this is mind boggling LOL

Agree, that didn’t come across well at all. He got his feelings hurt/wings clipped etc. There’s a real disconnect there, as he’s tried to justify doing all that stuff. In my opinion leaders are going to disagree or should that stuff is natural but get with the program man and lead on. Agree he doesn’t show enough conviction there for my taste either. The biggest problem that I have had so far with him is that he’s an average coach and needs above average resources and good coaches around him to elevate the program. He’s an above average CEO and ambassador. Here’s to everyone elevating their game this yr
He’s NOT an “above average CEO” 😂 What about this Mickey Mouse operation that he’s running makes you think that?

Sounds like they bought the rights to it. They can shut it down or restart it. It also sounds like Rhule is getting paid as if he is doing it, but his boss wants him less distracted so he can focus on his core responsibility: winning games.

I would much prefer that Rhule come to this conclusion on his own. But instead he’s butthurt and whining like a kid in timeout.
