Insurance companies famously generous. My bad for being disingenuous.
You said they weren’t gonna cover them anymore. That’s a lie or disingenuous, call it what you like. Vaccines recommended under “shared clinical decision-making” are still fully covered—no different from routine recommendations.
• The CDC’s press release confirms: “These recommendations on hepatitis B immunization maintain consistency of coverage for all payment mechanisms, including… Medicaid, Medicare, [Children’s Health Insurance Program], and insurance plans through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace.”
• A CMS policy analyst testified during the ACIP meeting: “We see no coverage gaps in the newly proposed language and don’t believe it would restrict access.” Coverage holds for Medicaid, CHIP, and private plans.
• The insurance trade group has stated they will continue covering the shots, per Reuters reporting.
• Medicare Part B already covers the full hepatitis B series at no cost (if the provider accepts assignment) for eligible beneficiaries, and this was expanded in 2025 to include those without a prior complete series or unknown history—independent of ACIP timing changes.
• The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, which serves about half of U.S. kids, explicitly includes the hepatitis B vaccine with no changes.
