He was legend status at State for me. I enjoyed watching those teams so much. They were the first team to actually be great in my adult life. Super happy he is getting that opportunity.
Well, as much as I'm pulling for the guy, if he doesn't learn to hit major league pitching, he won't be in the show for long. He's batting below .200 and strikes out a ton. I've seen many a box score this year where he went 0 - 3 with 3 K's. Yeah, if he get wood on it, more than likely it'll leave the yard. He just doesn't make contact very often. One strike out and one weak grounder thus far tonight. Still, he's got a cannon for an arm in right field.
But in all fairness, Kershaw is making the whole Rays lineup look bad so far tonight.
How many years has he been in the league now? And he is batting cleanup in the World Series and you lead off with “if he doesn’t learn to hit major league pitching, he won’t be in the league for long”. Do they normally put poor hitters in the cleanup spot in the World Series? There must be some reason he’s there.
In case you haven’t noticed in Major League Baseball batting averages are on the decline and strikeout rates are off the charts. He’s not any different than anyone else.
I remember when a hitter hitting .250 was having a rough year. These days bat .220 with pop (while drawing a few walks)and you’re a middle of the lineup guy.
His obp isnt great but he is better against lefties. 10 ks in 17 ab is pretty terrible. He didnt get ab in game 2. Not msny cleanup hitters only play when lefty is pitching. Hope he can get back to his last year self soon. HRs make up for bad obp

Yes, they found a hole in his swing in an abbreviated season without much of a chance to fix it. He's adjusted to everything along the way and have no doubt he will figure this one out as well.

I agree. The strikeouts and home runs, along with the boredom that comes with it, combined with the velo era and injured pitchers, will eventually wear out. I think people want to see hits and actual defense again.
Of course, it goes all the way back to the strike. Home runs pulled baseball out of that, steroids kicked in, now it's about velo, etc.
With as many kids are playing baseball now, I'm hoping it will soon get back to being a more pure game, with many different talented players, rather than just power and arm strength.

Yeah, Renfroe has never been Ted Williams in terms of contact, but this has easily been the worst season of his career offensively. Very hard to imagine its not at least somewhat related to the pandemic and lack of normal spring training and being able to get enough live AB’s to work through the issues. He can reliably hit .225-.250 with 30 HR / 80 RBI in a normal season at this point in his career. That’s not necessarily All-Star caliber, but its good enough for him to stay on a roster and even play every day in a lot of places.
