Coach Frost says players aren't buying in, are joking around before games, and do not have the desire to be great.

I fully believe him. Hes right....even a fan can see it, and its apparent at practices too.

There is no reason a coach should have to be constantly motivating players. At some point, they need to have an inner desire to be great and settle for nothing less. Our team is weak in this area.

But heres the deal, Frost: time to stop talking about them namelessly in front of a podium and time to start benching their asses. Until there are real repercussions there will be no real change. This is getting irritating.

Furthermore, certainly some of these players are defenders with blackshirts. Are we going to allow them to keep wearing them? They dont care about them...until theyre gone.
Frankly, I dont think any of our defense deserves one. Not one of them. Let them fire each other up.

I haven’t heard Frost say anything about practices...
Fan behind me today at the game said you might as well burn those black jerseys. Yeah, that was a pitiful performance
The same guys that faltered at Minnesota are still putting bad game tape out there this week, makes me sick
As you said, it would be great to see those guys ride some bench
The fans knew it today, especially on defense, this team has no killer instinct.
I’ll have to rewatch the tape but it almost looked like the d line was picking and choosing their spots to rush the passer while our d was in zone, and they would just occupy their gaps
No pass rush, when they did rush they were so undisciplined that the QB ran for a big play or dumped it off out to the RB who was uncovered

The alternate blackshirt uniforms should never again be seen....disgrace to the blackshirt tradition!

I've always been backing Chins but these last two games have been downright humiliating (to say the least). Our kicking game is laughable at best & our OLine is horrible beyond belief. With our current OLine our qbs are getting the sh*t kicked out of them. God help us.

Without doubt HCSF has his hands TOTALLY full. Except for his big money I wouldn't be wearing his shoes for all the tea in China.

I'd honestly take it a step further. Most of these guys are simply "warm bodies". No desire. No fight. No want. No attitude. No emotion.

Not even a kick in the *** can motivate these part-timers.

I have to believe that the guys they have coming, have more personality than a wet dishrag.

I hate to compare ourselves with Illinois, but I think you’re seeing the upside of what Lovie Smith did. He had mostly freshmen and some sophomores playing last year and this year. They took their lumps but it appears to finally be paying dividends. They appear to be a team on the rise while Nebraska....

I dont understand why we dont just put in the backups to the backups. If the 1st and some 2nd stringers aren't going to try or care then why play them? They may be less talented but I'd rather lose with effort. When you keep them in the game, you're rewarding the behavior

If it is appropriate to rip the team to the press, why are his coaches exempt? The defense in particular looks lost.

Honestly I really just don't get it. Why do the players buy in at other schools to the extent that we get beat by teams that historically used to be also rans in the conference? There's no team in the B1G that can't beat us right now.

Why do many of our players play football if they don't care enough to play hard enough to win? Are they only interested in the scholarship so they can get paid to go to school and attend parties?

Coaches must be recruiting the wrong kind of kids with mediocre personalities is all I can figure out. And Frost has orchestrated a massive roster turn around in a short time frame we really can't blame Riley much longer.

And just how in the world could this staff have succeeded so fast at UCF and now appear to be so bad at Nebraska? Really a mystery to me because it's exactly the very same guys. Seems like they either can't coach or can't motivate a lot of the players (I guess it's both and the same thing).

Because the seniors and juniors developed a loser, oh shucks, mental state uder Riley. It's why the frosh and freshman are the only ones playing hard. I would bench the Twins and start playing Ty and Henrich. Get Rogers and Hannah snaps too.

I'm in basic agreement with you. Some of the players may be Riley holdovers, but Frost is in year 2 and the "culture" is now his. He has to own that and stop making veiled comments about "not having enough of the right guys." If there are internal issues, it's his job to do something about it...and it shouldn't take two years. It's his program now. Own it.

And one other thing to get off my chest: Can we please stop with "the Pipeline" when they introduce the OL starters at the stadium before kickoff. That's laughable. I could say something about which pipeline this group belongs in, but my mom taught me "if you can't say something nice..."

For whatever reasons, it appears that Frost has not gotten buy-in from everyone. I think this is a new situation for him and one that he doesn't know how to resolve. It is easy to say "bench them", but that is probably not going to get them on board. It is also easy to say that once he gets the roster completely turned over, the culture will be there, but that is not necessarily the case.

One point of conflict is that his system is 95% offense oriented. The defense is always going to feel like the unwanted stepchild and on top of that some might feel like their coaching is worse than under the previous regime. One thing that I didn't like hearing in the post-game press conference was that the offense played well enough to win. Not a great way to promote team unity.

One big contrast between this staff at UCF and here is that the players don't seem to be enjoying themselves like they were in Florida. The culture at UCF was strong and everyone appeared to be playing hard and with heart and having fun. That's easy when you are undefeated or clearly improving, but more difficult if you are not.

The play on the field will not be fixed until the culture is and, honestly, it is getting late in the game for Frost to get that done.

No offense but the B10 is alooooooot tougher to win than UCF’s conference. This middle pack Indiana team is on par with that great Memphis team UCF beat in Frosts undefeated season. My major concerns are the lack of defensive recruiting, specially linebackers and our defensive coordinator. Not to mention our special teams coach also coaches the linebackers, so changes need to be addressed but I doubt Frost will do it. Our future schedules are brutal as well so Frost might have a career .600 at best during his first 8 years at helm.

Part of Frosts problem coming in is that he wants to have a position-coach style relationship with the players, but the problem is he isnt a position coach anymore. Hes the main guy. Hes not their buddy, but he was trying to be.

this doesnt mean you go around being a hard *** all the time. It just means you always hold everyone accountable and everyone knows it. There is no question whos in charge and whats expected. TO was this way, so are most good coaches.

think of the best teacher and/or coach you ever had. Not your favorite one, but the best one. The expectations are known by all around, and everyone knows who's in charge and that consequences will be had if things aren't done right. Its not fear, its heightened respect which leads to motivation.

Frost is smart, knows the game, and can recruit. If he can master the mentality and presence of a head coach who is unquestionably in charge of a team, the tone will be set from the get-go instead of the “catch up” we are seeing right now.

A lot of this players not buying in crap is an excuse for piss poor coaching. When kids consistently tackle wrong, are out of position, it’s coaching!! So this week have the kids we’re joking around before the game while he was watching the Ohio State game? Jesus

Frost has been a D coordinator before. He SHOULD know what the issues are and he needs to address them. I guess he has stepped up to the podium multiple times and said that "we need to recruit better players". But man, it's hard to be patient when I see our D get rolled like it did yesterday. We're just not athletic enough at OLB with Davis in the game and we're so thin at safety right now. We really need to land another stud OLB and a difference maker at safety. The 3rd down conversions we allowed were atrocious. Frost needs to spend some time with Chinander and analyze what went wrong there then fix it.

Nebraska will never be the team they want to be with Erik Chinander as a DC. Position coach....yes. Coordination of a Defense. No. Nebraska is learning what UCF knew. You have to score a ton to offset the volume of scoring his defenses give up.

Recruiting needs to improve for Frost to have the kind of success that we expected when he was hired. I’m not sure that will happen unless he hires one or two ace recruiters. And I’m not optimistic that will happen.

Not enough depth to do what really needs to be done. Only recruiting and time can fix the current problems.

One thought - UCF players may have bought in quicker because they went from 0-12 to 6-6 and a bowl game. Nebraska went from 4-8 to 4-8.
UCF had better athletes at multiple positions when Frost took over than we had at NU when he came here IMO. They had multiple guys drafted off of that team after Frost left. Difference makers on defense and WR,QB and RB.

I'm tired of the buy in excuse. It is possible the players might buy in better if they weren't put into impossible situations all the time. How about dialing up some blitzes when their QB is gimpy? How about manning up when the zone is getting picked apart? How about jamming their receivers at the LOS? How about calling a timeout, bringing the O line over and tell them you are counting on them, then snapping under center and running up the middle on 3rd and 2? Why go into a shell to begin every third quarter? Maybe there would be more buy in if the players felt trusted and put in the right situations. And while I'm at it, I'm sensitive to Jovan's courageous battle with cancer, but he has got to go.

Yeah not jamming WR at line of scrimmage granting free release to get torched drives me nuts.

Frost is gonna have to be as critical of his staff as he is the players, so all coaches should be evaluated based on their performance. They can’t be exempt from the critique the players receive.

I’m not “quite” there yet to declare coaches need to be canned (although it’s getting harder to justify not making changes), but a lot of that is up to Frost knowing the inner workings and really diagnosing root causes.
In fairness to coaches, with the semi empty cupboard they inherited, it’s not fair to blame them until they have a chance to coach up their guys. On the contrary, they have enough talent on the roster to seemingly be better than they are.

I do think that we need to seriously consider spending a chunk to find some established guru who can recruit to take over at DC before the program falls any further beyond rock bottom.

Coaches throwing players under the bus rarely leads to improvement. Perhaps I missed it, but I didn't hear Frost taking any responsibility. Even goes so far as to say that the players are doing what they are being told, but they should be doing more. That is what is called "mind games" and it is not good.

This staff wasn't ready for a rebuilding project in a major conference. They caught lightning in a bottle for one year in a terrible conference. They didn't have experience building and sustaining program like Fleck at WMU. Frost took over a well-oiled machine as OC at Oregon and inherited a talented roster at UCF that was only a couple years removed from a BCS bowl.

I hope he can figure it out, because he's not going anywhere soon. But it's time consider that he is in way over his head.

Fully agree the Big10 is light-years tougher than UCF's conference. Way, wayyyyyy tougher.

Hang tough for awhile partner. I know that's easier said than done as it's rough on all of us. But above all else it's win with HCSF or we're down in the bottom of the bucket for a long, long, long time. We need to bring in more Callahans & Smiling Mikes like another hole in our head. As you know, he's a guy who listens & respects TO which is a very good thing. He's learning.....and yeah, he has his hands full to say the least now.

But he'll figure it out sooner or later (with our OLine it may take awhile)....but then we'll be very, very happy campers!!
