Anyone have an info on little Harer injury? I read that he suffered a pretty significant lower body injury in the practice and that’s why he didn’t wrestle at the Pittsburgh classi. Hopefully nothing that requires surgery

Christian Alvarez to North Carolina for football and Wrestling.

2 Delsea guys. Petit the 21 seed who won states and DePaul who recently decommited to Buffalo both took visits to Rutgers this week
Petit could just be scratching the surface but doesn’t have much in terms of body of work.

DePaul looks like a solid NJ wrestler but more likely depth guy.

DePaul seems like the kind of guy who could grind out a solid career at Bloomsburg but definitely not in the big 10

Yes but I think Petit might be the real deal and it seems like he’s just hitting his stride. He is still getting better and hasn’t leveled off yet
Agreed. He came out of nowhere this year but was ridiculous underseeded and is probably a placer as a junior if healthy. Knocked off some legit guys this year, I think he can be a contributor at the next level.

Knox set to compete in the us open at 57 kg . Winner gets a bye to final X. Best guys currently registered are Spencer Lee and Vince Robinson. Few other AAs Cronin and Eric Barnett. I’d expect Knox to place top 3. No other Rutgers wrestlers are entered

In recent years, our recruiting has been really good. We made great inroads in Pa. and have done well in the portal. The question remains can we develop.

Fans have been excited and hopeful about Nini, Conner Harer, Magro, Gibson, Parkins, Chapman, Pinto, and even Catka. While many of these guys are young, none have done as well as expected.

Hopefully, Ashnault can help develop the middle weights. He helped develop Marc Anthony McGowan who finished 2nd at NCAAs.The jury is out on Labriola as Pinto under achieved. He was ranked in the top 8 in preseason. Plus, Catka was leading in the blood round and wasn't prepared for Christian Carroll's last moment take down. This is an important year for Labriola to get some upper weights on the podium. Who will have primary coaching responsibility for our lightweights?

At this point you just have to wonder who Daddy Warbucks is that stepped up to the plate.
$20M anonymous donation in December. Guessing a portion of that is being used for wrestling as they have changed their future overnight. It’s not just MM and BB…they have a slew of other studs coming in.

Does anyone know if RU offered Lower Cape May’s Chase Hansen, who set the state all-time wins record? It seems he would have been a 133 pounder and he is going to Rider.

That kid isn’t even ranked, we had Billy Towson who was ranked high last year and we also have CJ Huerta who’s ranked 8th @138 coming this year. I doubt Chase Hansen could beat either of them.

I wasn’t overly impressed with him at NJ states and it was a particularly weak weight class. If he wrestled at a top program he wouldn’t be close to that number of wins.

He’s ranked by every ranking system. Flo has #65 overall.

he got royally screwed in a one takedown match against the kid that won it and will probably end up a 3xer

Hansen is going to be an AA for rider.

First off Flo’s rankings are generally the worst, secondly I looked at Flo’s rankings per weight class and I didn’t see him anywhere. Lastly that kid today isn’t better than who we have and other coming in.

He’s 65 on the Final big board. You have no idea if who we have are better. All we have at the moment is question marks at 133 and 141. He’s good on top and he had over 100 pins that type of thing usually translates to college well.

He'll be lucky if he makes it 10 matches with his injury history and Brands meatgrinder practices.
They don’t have meat grinder practices at all in fact they probably have one of the more laid back practice approaches in the country. they do practice lIke Gable did and gable ran practice like nicholls did. It’s an open practice he’ll say ok for the next hr work out at your own pace and just let’s the guys work on what they want or wrestle live or whatever is the wrestler prefers.

now the lifting and strength and conditioning I’ve heard they do definitely is going to put some strain on the joints and ligaments . They are doing nfl lineman lifts with 133 pounders

I have NOT heard this about the Iowa wrestling room but I’m sure he will train however suits him best given his injury history

Ive heard for years that was the approach but didnt believe it at first but recently listened to the Dan Gable episode of the full tilt podcast and he explained his approach to practice And where he learned it and i listened to some interviews of other iowa guys on there and the brands run the program exactly how gable did 30 years ago, probably why they are still power lifting like it’s 1985.

Crookham to Iowa.Bad move on his part.
Maybe, if he can’t stay healthy.. but if he can, brilliant pick up from Iowa.. he’s one of the only legit multiple year title threat in the portal.. Iowa hasn’t been able to develop their own wrestlers at the pace of PSU/Okie state… and of their portals.. it seems getting the mid tier portals hasn’t worked that well for them…

I totally agree that he got screwed against the kid who finished first. I think most observers agreed that the bad call kept him from the state title. I just don’t really know anything about which rankings are credible and which are not so I was curious. I am a little prejudiced because I graduated from Lower Cape May with his grandfather, who did something pretty extraordinary – – never wrestling until he got to high school and then being a state semifinalist as a junior.

It feels like a lot of our mid tier recruits (#40-100 p4p)..have not been hitting recently, comparatively, the walk-on type recruits have done just as well if not better.. think.. Vanbrills/Perrotti/Gravina/Theobold/SCW
we'll see how many semesters he lasts prior to becoming a volunteer assistant coach back at delsea

You do have pretty high standards. The kid was one bad call from most likely winning the state title. The team was one injury away from being the state champs.

It was by far one of the easiest weight classes which is why the BC kid dropped down and won it all.

Not to mention he was losing late in the 2nd round match = if the Pingry kid didn’t lock hands in last minute of the match giving up a penalty point plus got choice (CH took bottom of course) there is a good chance he would have lost.

hope he proves me wrong and does well at Rider so we can grab him in the portal

We are missing the coach who worked with the Vanbrill’s, Perrotti, Gravina, Theobold, and Shawver when he AA.
