At least Partridge didn't have a kid of his own to ***** out to Harbaugh. The others all apparently did.

Seems to be paying off for him. Wish we did things like this.

The NCAA is going to have to crack down on these "analysts" type roles. A team with a ton of revenue can use it to fund these types of roles which are really just more coaches.

Actually, the proposed rules only disallows it for coaches who have kids coming out in 2 years or less. This kid wouldn't be enrolled until the summer of 2019 which is over 2 years from now even if the rule were in place.

Also this coach does have NFL and high level FBS coaching experience so it's not like he hired some bum just because he has a 5* kid (although I won't kid myself that it's not a reason).

That list is stupid as well. Pretty sure every coach hires coaches to help them recruit a certain area/school . At least they should and the only direct relation on that list is a guy who's son is Michigan's BACKUP fullback as a senior. I actually prefer this than paying kids directly to attend. At least it's technically legal.

You play by the rules while pushing some boundaries and you're some scumbag cheater.. You silently pay players and avoid headlines while actually cheating (Saban), you're a legend and the GOAT. Headscratcher.

Didnt Rutgers want Partridge for the exact same reason. This board always complains that we need a coach with Jersey ties. So what exactly do we mean when we say that. The relative issue I get.

Hiring the parents of a recruit you want, is just a way for schools to pay money for an elite recruit in a legal way as oppose to using bag men to pay the parents under the table. Since the NCAA is hot garbage, they never closed this loophole. But I think that might change soon.

Don't see the issue. Smart move.

Agree. This is what we're up against. Partridge was in our backyard. Now, he may have played us anyway for the Michigan job but we let him walk away apparently because other HS coaches didn't like him.

I can't get mad at it if it is within the rules...I just wish we had the cash and balls to do the same things

The problem is, Rutgers would not have reaped the benefits of Partridge like Michigan did. Because we aren't Michigan. And in the end, it would have been detrimental as many of the high profile football schools sided against Partridge even before he left PC. So that would have worked against Rutgers in regards to relationships with high school programs and recruiting.

look at this guys resume. this is why he was hired. he is going to be an on the field coach not an analyst

At [URL='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_State_University']Oregon State University, Johnson and the wide receiver coach from 1997 to 1998 and the quarterback coach in 1999. Johnson was the San Diego Chargers quarterbacks coach for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Johnson served as the quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 2003 to 2005 where he worked with Quarterback Michael Vick. In 2003, Mike Johnson was the offensive coordinator for the last two games of the season under interim head coach Wade Phillips.

Before joining the 49ers, Mike Johnson was the wide receivers coach for the Baltimore Ravens in 2006 and 2007. On September 27, 2010, Johnson was named offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, replacing Jimmy Raye.

He was later hired as an assistant coach at UCLA in January 2011. He was named UCLA's interim head coach after the firing of Rick Neuheisel. He coached the final game of the season at the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.[2]

Johnson was not retained by new UCLA coach Jim L. Mora in 2012.

This is accurate. Whats the difference between giving Cecil Newton a bag of case or giving him a job as an analyst for the football team to land Cam Newton.

Been going on for a least a century. That's what competition does, whether it's team sport or an individual sport, pushing the envelope to get an edge draws criticism if it affects others and praise if it means winning at the highest level.

if its legal its fine, too much jelly here

legal? for now....... hopefully, that will be changing. Most important section of article:

There also is an NCAA proposal that would ban college teams from hiring high school coaches of prospective student-athletes "during a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete's anticipated enrollment" to fill a "nonfootball coaching" role.

If Johnson is elevated to an on-field coaching job -- if the proposal is passed this spring -- this would not be a violation of the proposed rule.

This crap is a sham... everyone knows it... not sure how you stop it... but, hope the NCAA tries...

I don't recall people caring when Garrett Shea decided to leave OSU to play for his dad or when RU hired Bill Cubit as OC to be followed closely behind by his son Ryan who was #15 QB in the nation and headed to Clemson (I think)...,

No he didn't.

Where is Gary's Mom living and working?
Not trying to be snarky. Someone told me she magically was the most qualified applicant for a job six states away! Any truth to that rumor.?
