See link. Interesting thoughts and solutions given here. Won't spoil it, but the fix takes a page from what college basketball has been doing recently. Host makes sure to point out this rant has nothing to do with Saturday's weather either.

Unless the plan is to get back to the traditional football game format, the administration needs to just call it a day and shut it down. Gimmicks, tricks, clown shows, and any other ridiculous substitute for the real thing is an insult to Penn State fans.

Yep, give me 65° or warmer, an autograph session where my kids can walk down on the field for a little bit and I’ll gladly spend tons of money in town and on new gear.
Absolutely it’s good for business in town, no question. And absolutely any kid or even any adult would enjoy the opportunity to step on the field and take in the view from ground level. Done it many times. And yes, 65 degrees would be great, 68 degrees even better. Heck, even the carnival around the stadium is a great idea and event For many families.

Tgar is totally on board with all of the above. His nasty little snip was at the game itself, or non game as it were.

Just play a f*cking football game for free. For f*ck’s sake.

Seemed like they hit pinnacle BW Game experience when there was still some kind of game, but there was also a 'carnival' type atmosphere for families, a rally (or something - band performance/cheerleaders?) at the BJC, and it was televised. Not sure when everything went in the crapper, but certainly player injuries are a concern. Shutting it down doesn't make sense given on nice days it can draw over 50,000 people. Just needs to be re-imagined. Weather sucked this year and was a big detriment to folks normally willing to travel.

Chris talked about it on that segment...it changed when everyone realized that putting film on the BTN of all of our bench players was just inviting every other school to get a free preview of what you have, and make a play at them when the portal opened. We're not alone...more and more schools have moved away from playing an actual game and/or having it televised.

The B&W games I remember having fun at were in the late 80's early 90's but it was always the scrimmage the week before, the coaches clinic that we could get legit info from. I think it started to go downhill around the "dark years".
The weather and the stadium construction being this years biggest issues.
And spoiler alert if Joe could have gotten away with doing what CMC did he would have.

Maybe not charging for everything to attend a scrimmage/exhibition game.

Can there be a thumbs up, thumbs down kind of thing? When the fans do thumbs down, the player loses their NIL money or a coach gets fired.

Would spice things up.

Or release real Lions onto the field and see what happens during halftime.

I remember the B/W Game in either 1982 or 83. We watched these guys pulling on a rope from the top of the student section wondering what was going on until we saw the 1/4 keg appear and get tapped.

No one said a word. Now you can't even have a keg in the parking lot because, why again? One of the few things Scott Paterno got right, yet still failed at.

Players would be broke and all the coaches fired before the lots even open

You are so full of crap about the “dark years”. That picture of the stadium filled up in that video was the 2007 Blue White Game, three years after 2004 and and a year before a 2008 Big Ten Title. We were drawing 60,000 to 70,000 per year back then.

Sure Joe would have just rather had another practice, but he knew that the game was a recruiting machine on steroids for both players and fans. Back then, only a couple of schools could come anywhere close to matching the excitement and attendance that we did for our spring game. Just another thing Joe had right that made us special.

In fact, looking at that picture reminds me of what a different world we lived in back then. We all wore orange and maroon to that game in remembrance of the Virginia Tech students that were shot. Back then, V-Tech was still despised by most Penn State fans, including me, over the Kevin Jones incident a few years earlier.

I remember I pulled out an old, orange, Penn State t-shirt I hadn’t worn since I was in school 35 years earlier. I haven’t worn it again since 19 years later. But that one day, when I walked into the Beav wearing that orange t-shirt, and seeing all that orange and maroon, I was never prouder to be a Penn State Alum and a Penn State fan. In fact, since that day, my whole attitude toward V-Tech changed from extremely negative to positive, to the point I’m actually happy for both James Franklin and V-Tech that he ended up there.

they are pros now- they ain't doing nothing for free
So yesterday I’m reading one of Ryan’s recruiting updates and a kid said he liked a PSU coach ‘because he (the coach) doesn’t make it (presumably playing football) like work’ and I’m thinking work? Really, other coaches make playing football like work?

smh, there’s no joy in the game

The adults f’ed up amateur sports to the point that kids are thinking the privilege of playing a d1 sport and getting paid and getting an education is work.
