I felt it's pretty important to mention considering Donnie Freeman would be signed already. His agent is the sole reason he is not.
At least it's not another thread saying 'Hearing we get a boom today', 'When does Stokes sign', or another poll about banning 'anons'.
Agents should be taken back out of the picture. Until they turn pro only allow the kids and their parents to negotiate NIL.

It's going to take teams to play hardball with them. As in moving on to the next viable option. A player of Freeman's caliber should never be able to jerk around a blueblood. If you move on they will eventually learn UK won't be toyed with. I know we'd lose some talent to perhaps lesser talent but not that much imo.
It's literally the definition of a ransom lol. Lawyers and agents whose only goal is to make money, came in, threw a tantrum, changed the entire thing to benefit them and literally hold players for ransom and decide where they'll go. It's just the truth, doesn't have to be dramatic. AT LEAST make agents illegal or something. The player has to communicate directly to the school and negotiate.

?? This is according to the info that is circulating. Freeman wants to go to Kentucky. Kentucky has the highest bid, but his agent wants to drag it out and drive up the price even more.

The player whose full intention and desire is to play for the university. It has been publicly reported that many of these kids do not feel in charge of where they are going and the agents are in the driver's seat.
If a 20 year old kid wants the advantage that the institution created, by playing for that institution. Yes. Friendly reminder, basketball has no real world value. The NCAA and the NBA are what created the value.
You are correct. No fun anymore. I have had season for many years. I do not care now if I miss a game. A very no fun anything now.
Probably GM related. Negotiating with scummy, money driven agents, doesn't really align with Pope's "analytics and value" model.

If the agent is working against the kid’s wishes he and his family need to fire him. They have the power in this situation.
I tried to warn people about how stupid the current rev share model is. Kentucky without a doubt has more support than St. Johns but St. Johns literally does not have a football program. It is the definition of "buying a program." They will be able to DRASTICALLY overspend for players, which is what they are doing with Freeman. It is a rule that literally gives St. Johns and schools like them an unfair advantage for NO reason at all.
That's ridiculous. The agent works for the player. He is an employee. The agent can't "make" the player do anything
Sucking the blood out of the sport ... I tend to agree, but understand they must have a role. The CNN special suggested their fee rate is too high at 20%, as compared to 4% for pro sports.

That is what's happening. The agent does not want the kid to sign, the agent tells the kid to wait. Again these are 19/20 year old kids being manipulated by greedy agents. They have no intention of just letting them sign with the first team they like.
The kids are greedy then. They used to get zip. They hired the agent. Should have been raised right
Sounds like the agent is getting freeman an extra million to go to st John's if signs there. Not sure how that's being a bad agent.
While this is true, it DOES seem (from the outside, at least), that agents are pulling a lot of strings. Agents presumably know the system, so the player and his family would give him significant leeway; agents presumably are working on behalf of the player (and his family) to make them the most money; there is likely implicit trust given to the agents to work in the best interests of the players. On top of that, agents have personal incentive to get the biggest contract for the players - assuming they make a % cut. While the agent IS an employee, my guess is they have a lot of sway.
And by the way, while it's frustrating from a fan's (i.e. my) perspective how NIL, agents, etc., have impacted the normal flow of recruiting, I have to admit that I'm glad for these guys for getting their own. Most of us would likely do the same. And college athletes have been used in a billion dollar industry for too long with disproportionately low financial reward (I assume this is a controversial statement, but I stand by it lol).

And like it or not, those who can’t adapt quickly (which I wouldn’t have thought two years ago would be Pope— but evidently is — because we needed a GM last year and still don’t have one) will not do well.
And we could definitely be doing a ton better if the adaptation had been made months ago.

So, we now have a stubborn Calipari type coach who refuses to change what needs changed once again!!!
But this one is worse because he can’t recruit at the same level.

There is a simple fact of business...you are worth whatever someone will pay you. To me, none of the blame goes on the kids. They aren't putting a gun to these University's heads for all this money. The fact that the NIL packages are this long shows how much money was being pocketed without going to the players
I think that this is where my biggest frustration lies. The reality is that every school has to deal with NIL, agents, etc.
Kentucky has all of the money, resources, prestige that any school could want.....but we're struggling so much closing the deal.
I'm not insider enough (at all) to know or understand where the breakdown is - but it is SO frustrating. Obviously what the decision-makers are doing isn't working.

If Freeman wants to come to UK, he'll be at UK. People acting like the agents are forcing these poor kids to do things they don't want to do. They're 18 years old and already in a higher tax bracket than everyone on this board (other than me of course)
