Pelphry,Woods, and Ford all three played for ky but failed at coaching. Just because you played basketball for Rick Pitino doesn't guarantee success as a coach. Fans want to believe players will always be successful at coaching but Pope proves otherwise.
Odd those 3 players won over 900 games between them as coaches.
How many college games did you win as a coach?

I know after they finally get the roster built, Pope and his staff need to get together collectively and figure out what’s going wrong and making it so difficult for them with recruiting. If he wants to make it here, whatever the issues are they need to be addressed.
What's wrong is Pope's personality, recruits think he's weird. Don't know how the staff gets together and addresses that, maybe send him out of town when recruits are visiting.

Left without a commitment, a Pope staple in recruiting
Zoom left and committed days after this same kind of doom and gloom thread. Players commit on visits still, but that's a very small number nowadays. Have to get with their agent and see what the money's like elsewhere before pulling the trigger and such. I don't like it, but that's where the sport is at

0 because he wasn't a college coach. That's a stupid argument. All 3 of those were average (Ford) to below average (Woods and Pelphrey) college coaches. Weird to compare them to rando internet guy to build them up

He is not that good... Someone tell me what I missed? He is around 100 "best" in the portal. Maybe it's down to best available??

The common denominator is all of these recruits is JMI. If allowed, it will be the death of Kentucky Basketball. The program has to be rescued from the clutches of the Demon Quaker. He’s Lucifer in a v neck royal blue sweater.

My uneducated take in JMI... It's probably no big deal, but other schools use it as the boogyman. Kids come in, and have to deal with a JMI contract adding complexity. Kids don't want to deal with an extra layer and their agents don't want to explain the reality and they just move on.. A lot of kids already are nervous of being scammed and this just adds to it.

When Providence and UofL sign quickly and Pope struggles to sign, to me that is concerning.

Brooks on the women's side is having NO Issue, even with JMI. And Stein as well.

I used to think it as 50/50 on Pope/JMI.

Now I think its 75 Pope 25 JMI.
UL was willing to outbid Duke for Bidunga. It's not rocket science. Providence is cooking, they are getting players, but let's be honest they are having to overpay and a lot of those dude's are starters on a tourney team, not a final four team.

He pops on tape. He's got NBA level potential. He really started to come on late in the season for Colorado and Tad Boyle at Colorado isn't really know for being a great offensive mind. You don't see many 6'11 3 Level scorers who can dribble pass and shoot. He hasn't been productive though and that's what I am getting nervous about right now. All the guys UK seems to be interested in are people with very very high ceilings but they are unproven commodities. If they develop correctly we could be looking at a great team, if we have too many growing pains we could be fighting to make the tournament. Lots of risk, lots of reward.

They were all fired dumbass you call that success
Becoming a head coach , even in the OVC or SWAC is a lifetime achievement. The way numbers work , there’s a loss for every win .
BTW ;
Ford had a winning record everywhere but EKU & was given credit for turning program around.
Pelphrey had winning record at Arkansas
Woods had winning record at Morehead.

That’s because the guy making the comparison is the boards #1 weirdo…and he’s done it with quite a few usernames. An accomplishment.

Great synopsis. My hope is he could blend with Freeman as this kid has a better outside game. Not confident we can get that done tho…

Just very curious. How do you personally know that recruits say or think Pope is weird. I've read lots of comments from recruits and have never seen one thing from them saying he is weird. I've even read comments from his players say they really like him. I don't know that he's the right coach for UK but to make statements like you just did - where do you get your personal information like that?

I read this as Rancid update. Which is what most every UK recruiting update this portal season has been. Jettison Pope today and ask the Krafts to visit Donovan with a blank check to restore the program.

They don't. Pope had a disappointing season, and while he still has time to bring home a strong recruiting class, he is behind there as well, which leads people to create narratives and run with them like facts, and the bandwagon jumps on and there it goes. I saw another thread more than one poster saying we should bring in Rick Pitino Jr LMAO. Popes first season at UK, which made the S16, does zero to help him with the fanbase here, but it would constitute the greatest season in Pitino Jr's entire career, as he has never been past the round of 32. Folks take a narrative and then go to extremes, like "bring back Cal" or "give Donovan a blank check"...Cal crapped all over the program when he left by taking everything but the kitchen sink with him to Arkansas and Donovan has turned us down more times than a fat girl asking Dallas Cowboys to go to the prom with her, but some folks still want to go beg the same folks to come back here. Sad

I try to be as positive as I can but I've never been a fan of Mark Fox. He is a worse version of David Hobbs imo.
Be careful being critical of staff I got banned last night after 15 years being on here. Had to create a new anon account my old name was BlueBloodKyFan73 with Stewie Avatar. Gotta figure out how to change my name back
