Rutgers was in the top 4.. he spoke highly of the other 3 programs there without mentioning us. Rutgers being there was just a formality with him... wouldn’t worry about him, he’s gone and not coming here.

It's a long time until signing day. Nunzio needs to keep doing his work. Things change. Let's see how Frost recruits the rest of the way.

The sooner we drop the "recruit locally" paradigm the better. That ship has sailed. We have decades and generations evidence it does not work. Recruit Big Ten caliber players who want to play at Rutgers. Forget the NJ angle for top players. Period. If they are from NJ that is great. But do not use it as a starting point in the recruiting process.

There’s a lot of buzz around Nebraska now with Scott Frost taking over. I’d be nervous about any head to head recruiting battles with him now ... very nervous.

Who gets nervous about recruiting?

Hey guys, Pitt fan here. Listening to all the talk of loosing a local kid sounds familiar. I personally hate the extra attention the locals get. I think many feel entitled and keep too many bad apple friends from home. I know local recruiting is important, but it's sometimes overvalued. I love seeing out of state kids sign. I think it sends a message. Would love to see a class with only 2 or 3 locals. Wonder how recruits and fans would react.

Start winning and competing better with the big boys with players from anywhere and the interest from the NJ players who hear nothing but negativity about Rutgers, plus the "too close to home" issue--and they'll be more likely to stay. The best football players in Indiana typically don't go to Indiana or Purdue.

There is a big difference between recruiting top tier NJ recruits and getting players from other states that want to play for Rutgers.Such a strategy only works if the recruits have comparable talent.Location isn't the issue but rather the talent level of recruits who are B1G Ten caliber players.Since joining the league recruiting still needs further improvement. The won/loss record proves the point.

As per NJ.COM
Did we offer ?
Considering we have his high school head coach on staff I'd certainly hope we offered...if we didn't I doubt he would have named us in his Top 4 right?
Josh McKenzie is higher on your board and you are the favorite. Aaron Young is higher on your board and you are the favorite.
Let's be honest here...Rahmir is just as high on our board as McKenzie...and if we didn't have Young's brother committed I'm not sure how hard we'd be pursuing this kid...he doesn't have offers from his own in state programs which is curious to me...

Oh joy another Pitt fan chiming in...Pitt loses local kids because they would rather go to WVU or PSU or just get out of western PA...not to mention western PA is a dying football region so there aren't as many "local" power 5 caliber players like there are here in NJ...we can win championships with just jersey kids...can't say the same with Western PA kids anymore...

So we can’t get better players until till we start winning, but we can’t start winning until we get better players?

As Northwestern has shown Recently you only need a few good players and some really good coaching to start to find success that will start to bring better recruits...if RU can just get back to 6 win seasons and consistently make bowl games the better recruits will start to come in greater numbers where we can challenge for 8-10 win seasons from time to time...

Let's go back to Florida. 2 star kids from this state are probably better than most of the 3 star kids from NJ.
Too bad that UCF, USF, and to a lesser extent FIU, FAU are around now to get those kids unlike in those early Schiano years.

This is about as dumb a comment as I've ever seen on this board...how many NJ kids got drafted or signed UDFA deals with NFL teams this past couple weeks alone? NJ has a TON of high level football talent...

These are also national recruiting sites that rate recruits on the same basis and who generally compete against each other at regional and national camps...so to say a 2* is better than a 3 or 4* is just plain dumb...

If just thinking about the 4 year experience of college and playing football, can’t blame him. Life after the game? Well that’s where RU has the upper hand. However, if doing a standard football player major, like Labor studies or Undergraduate Disciplines or something, hard to say if any school is that much more well-known in those departments. Unless he’s trying to work for Goldman Sachs, hey UNL is a great place to spend 4 years as a CFB player.

No, they typically go to a school in Northern Indiana called Norte Dame.
One of three FBS programs in Indiana vs. one in New Jersey.

FWIW Indiana got 3 of the Top Ten In State recruits in 2017 and Purdue has a commitment for one of the top players in 2019 from In State.

It's been that way forever.
And you left out the part about some bigger-name school coming in and taking any coach that had significant success here.
There are reasons why the same schools are at the top year after year.

First of all, in your offense that McNulty is installing, you need an between the tackles runner which is why Garwo, Henderson and McKenzie where all higher than Kid Jet Sweep Johnson. He doesn’t fit in your offense. Aaron Young has legit high P-5 offers in Maryland, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan State, UNC, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Pitt, and West Virginia. He doesn’t have an offer from PSU because the Lions have national targets. Getting McKenzie creates more buzz for you locally than getting the “fast” kid who by the way ran a 4.6 at the Nike event. Let the coaches recruit. Only Rutgers in his top four didn’t run a spread offense. Read his comments, he choose the offense that best fitted him.
