I've been in section 115 since the 90s and I love my seats. But I've run into an issue over the last 5+ years. There is a couple who are at every game that is one row in front of me and two seats toward center court. I'm sure they are lovely people and seem like great fans. But anytime there is something even remotely exciting happening on the court, they stand up even though nobody in front of them is up and their view is not obstructed. When they stand up, I either have to stand as well or miss what's happening. I feel badly about this because usually the people behind me are older and don't stand in unison. So now, they're missing the game because I'm up.
Do I say something to these people or not? On one hand, I don't want to dampen their enthusiasm. On the other hand, what is the point of standing if your view remains unobstructed? It seems selfish and disrespectful to the other fans. I clarified that I am directing this to people in the 100 level because I understand the student section and other areas of the building with mostly younger fans would have different ettiquette.
Candid thoughts appreciated.
