Trust me there are plenty of boosters with companies that could hire athletes to advertise. I don’t think there is going to be significant money coming from small business on this. I do think an athlete here and there might pick up some advertising gigs from local businesses but I think the majority is going to come from sports related brands, big companies that will likely only care about the popularity of the athlete not their affiliation to the school.

Ain’t no way someone as smart as you are with the market doesn’t have some money stacked up. You are just pulling a Bezos and keeping it as “unrealized gains”. Us Ole Miss guys, on the other hand, we love to burn through our granddaddy’s cash as quickly as possible!

I was pondering on this the other day and while I don't know how the NIL stuff will work (as well as social media in general), I'd think the best thing the rank-and-file fan could do is follow players on social media. It would increase their desirability to advertisers and in turn put some cash in their pockets.

Wouldn’t this be Adidas’ role to license these kids, then sell their jerseys? Seems like that, and a couple of car dealers who were providing rides anyway, would be the major source of income for these kids.

And since Adidas has (relatively) few schools, could our affiliation with them result in more kids getting contracts than if we were with Nike? Just thinking out loud.

So it can't go to a recruit, but hopefully word will get out that if you sign with MSU and start on the D-line, sixpack will pay you 20K.

I'm sure you could do that, but I don't think you have to go through that kind of trouble. The way I understand it, you could just hand them a football or a piece of paper, ask them to autograph it, and pay them for the autograph. At this point, you can just hand them a bag full of cash......there is no way for the NCAA to police it anymore.

For what it’s worth, there are multiple private message threads on Ole Miss boards where anonymous GoFundMe’s have been set up to assist local Oxford businesses with NIL funds.. I clicked on a couple thinking it was a scam or joke and one of them didn’t have hardly any money donated, but the other one was already well over $40K and that was a good 6-7 days ago.
