Sorry,UKWILDCAT,they did not own him when he played. I remember one game when he went off for 60 plus. Kentucky did win the game but not because they stopped Pete.

Yep. Also Jim Master
Good call. He was lights out.

Who could ever forget 1983 .... Mideast Regional against Louisville.... Knoxville, TN with two seconds to go in regulation..... ;-)

Givens s game eas the mid range jumper. Am sure he could hit from three, but didnt see that range in his game.

The 1978 team may have gone undefeated had there been a 3 point shoot

Kyle Macy
Truman Claytor
Jay Shidler
Jack Givens

all could hit that shot... that would have opened up the inside for Robey, Phillips and Lee.

They would have been impossible to defend.

Everybody mentioned on this page would have been terrific but Little Louie would have been unbelievable straight on from out to 35 feet and Larry Steele would have killed opposing teams from either corner hitting 3's all night long

There is something different about listening to the game on the radio versus watching it on TV. This question brings one of those big differences to mind. In the radio days there were certain players that you loved to hear their names called because you new that it meant 2 points for the cats. Of the many Kevin Grevey, Pat Riley, Larry Pursiful, all come to mind however being on the radio you did not know how deep they were when the shot was taken I do not remember Cawood giving that statistic. Thanks for the question it brings back some pleasant memories.

1968
Jan 27: W 121-95
Feb 3: W 109-96

1969
Jan 25: W 108-96
Feb 22: W 103-89

1970
Jan 24: W 109-96
Feb 22: W 121-105

6-0, average win was by over 15 (all wins were by double figure, the closet margin of victory was 12)..

They owned him.

Issel & Cotton did most of their scoring from close-in & midrange shots.

NOTE: Bob Tallent transferred from UK to Geo Wash & led the nation in scoring there.
Bob Tallent from Maytown Ky
He had two other brothers who played D1 ball at GW and where also great players.

Maytown also produced one player that played at Vandy

That's a lot of talent from one very little school, all coached by the same man as well.......almost as many D1 players from that school as the rest of the county combined

Kyle Macy without a doubt.

Anyone that doesn't say Louie Dampier isn't old enough to have seen him, and missed something special.

i wish everyone could have enjoyed watching him.

Here is my top 4 ------Jack Givens, Kevin Grevey, Louie Dampier and Kyle Macy. All 4 shot over 50% for their career, and averaged double figures in ppg.
Jay Shidler, for his career only had 733 points, with a career high 20 points against Indiana his freshman year. He was a non factor in the National Championship game against Duke, 10 mins, 1-3 shooting for 2 points.

Not to be a jerk but if you don't remember:

"Lyons going up from 26.......got it" or

"Dampier puts it up from 23....write it down" or

"Shidler lets it go from 27...... it's there"

then you weren't paying attention

Do not forget Tommy Kron on that team. If he was open, he was dead-eye.

Kron had a better Free Throw % than Dampier most of the season.

Best passing team I have ever seen.
