If the offensive line isn't good, the QB play will always be terrible, no matter who it is.The offenseive line isn’t great, but our QB play no matter who is in, is terrible.
Sitkowski can’t get here soon enough.
Hayek is a freshman. He alligator one and didn’t run the right rout at the end. Gio threw to a spot and he wasn’t there. The play was well design and a good throw. This is the best we have. I’m proud of the way the team played today.A good passing QB got a TD in the 2nd quarter.
Hayek was open twice.

he dropped one of them

No, I actually watched the game. Gio tries to do too much with his legs. But it’s hard to get in rhythm when we call runs after runs. Throwing on obvious downs is difficult.Good throw ?
Did you listen to any of the comments of Ray Lucas or Eric L . on the Radio ?
Basically said Gio was off target all day long. Those passes were not on the WRs.
who dropped one late off his hands?False.
One pass hit the DL helmet and the other sailed out of the end zone.
Is it too much to ask for a QB to have 10-15 completions and 150-200 yard per game.Good throw ?

Talk to the coaches. They don’t want that.Is it too much to ask for a QB to have 10-15 completions and 150-200 yard per game.
Kill says we are going to do what we have the players to do. While he does have a run preference historically, if we have the ability to open it up then I bet he will. Right now all we can do is run. It works against the lesser teams but not the best. It is what it is, for now.Talk to the coaches. They don’t want that.

Just look at our WRs. Leading WR from last year is on D. Not sure what people are expecting.Kill says we are going to do what we have the players to do. Fans are starving. Starving people are never patient. They want water from rock and manna from heaven. However, thus far God does not appear to root for RU. That said, the opening play today made me think the Big Guy might have taken the points.Just look at our WRs. Leading WR from last year is on D. Not sure what people are expecting.

yep, we covered. Let's hope He is smiling next week and we win!maybe He did -- after all, wasn't the line at gametime +31?

Chip does not understand this.If the offensive line isn't good, the QB play will always be terrible, no matter who it is.

Agreed. We need WRs to get open more quickly. We also need to protect the QB better.I like Sitkowski a lot, but if he is sitting behind a D1 walk-on at IMG, the odds of him being able to turn around a poor B1G offense are low. I hate when we (I say "we" because we all do it) put unrealistic expectations on a young guy.
I think Rutgers' best shot for success next year is finding some receivers who will make their quarterbacks look better than they are since, as of now, the receivers are part of the problem.
On how many of those passes were the WRs open? On how many were the WRs where they were supposed to be? On how many did Gio have plenty of time to find an open WR?7/20 completions
43 total passing yards
2.2 average
I love Gio's grit, pocket presence, mobility, leadership and intelligence, but man, he just really struggles to hit these open throws.
Don’t get me wrong. Harris to D was a great move. The staff is going all-in on D. Fans just need to realize that and not expect too much from the O.
At the moment, with our pass protection and WR play, yes, it is.Is it too much to ask for a QB to have 10-15 completions and 150-200 yard per game.
I agree. There’s been enough body of work to evaluate Gio and he just will not get much better in my opinion. Hopefully next year we’ll see Lewis step up but from what I’ve seen so far , the jury is still out. After the game I did say we would have 6 wins if Gio had started all year so hopefully this post isn’t directed to everyone who is questioning Gio as the answer.
That being said, he is not good. True that he doesn’t get a lot of help from his receivers and the coaches but you only need to use your eyes to see we are about the only B1G team he would start for. We need better QB play.
Above average QB play can't cover up not being able to block people.Gio had time today. Sure there was pressure in some cases but the pass protection wasn't a show stopper. Many of those scrambles were a combination of holding the ball too long and routes being used that don't develop quickly enough. Hayek in the slot used correctly would be a nightmare to cover on short routes. The offense is unimaginative and the QB is tough but not decisive or accurate. It is what t is.
The team is improving but still has a long way to go. Above average QB play can cover up a lot of short comings. We just haven't seen that in a game for several years.
Switch QBs and what is the score of the game?Above average QB play can't cover up not being able to block people.
Lol. Hi Ms. Bolin!! Gio is the reason we won any big 10 games this season.Ive seen enough of Gio. Cannot make plays. Bring Bolin back for the rest of the season.

Tyrel Pigrome started as a true frosh at Maryland
The dinosaurs in this board act like starting a true frosh is unthinkable
And Pigrome was a kid we recruited at the same time as oden and preferenced oden instead.
JLewis is not allowed to throw, neither was oden...I think this may be more an indictment on Mehringers eye for talent, so maybe the fanboys in here can wrap there minds around the fact that Sitkowski or Chatman are probably our best option at QB next year bc clearly Gio is not.
believe both will be early enrollees as well
He's sharing time with another kid on one of the best high school teams in the country. It's not like he's struggling to play Manville. Plus, the kid plays against big time defensive players every day in practice. Kid is light years ahead of Teal and Nova who, if I remember, was rated like the 36th best player on the country in high school. Lesser rated freshman QB's play every day for teams more successful than we are.I agree, but Sitkowski isn’t even starting on his high school team and people see he is ranked in the top 100 and just assume he will step in and start. He has all the tools you look for in a QB, and if he puts it all together, watch out, but he needs a couple years to get used to college ball.
I remember watching film of Pigrome and thinking it was a no brainer going for him over the 98 lb weakling who also turned reced out to be a problem. Then after we get him we figure out he can't throw either. Now a second recruited QB who can't throw. Ash makes the final call here. Can't blame Mehringer, only Ash for hiring him. And now we have a bunch of freshman receivers who can't get open either. Thank God Kill had the foresight to come in late on lightly recruited Hayek, otherwise we would never complete a pass to a WR. My guess is it will be Kill's QB recruits (Sitkowski & Chatman) who will be the QB's going forward.Tyrel Pigrome started as a true frosh at Maryland

So what are we supposed to do? Ignore all the ratings, and when we get a top rated recruit just say "stars mean nothing, he's no good."
Would rather have a 4 star qb commit who's been rated by a number of people who's job it is to watch them, then a two star qb who a few people on the message boards say is great.
Do you honestly believe Sitkowski is not better than all of the QB's we have?Just because he is highly rated does not mean that he is ready to play as a true freshman. He is rated highly due to his potential.
