So because they lost that one game it somehow invalids them as being a good team?

People talk up Duke and UNC all the time and completely ignore the fact that UVA VASTLY outperformed both of them in ACC competition.
Didn't Duke beat them twice?

Well, this is going to be a bad result for whoever wins the Midwest regional. Virginia has only lost two games to Duke and the ACC tourney game against Florida State. Those of you preferring a matchup with them are insane.

They almost lost to 26-10 Purdue, Oregon damn near beat them as well so I'm not sure regular season record is the lone predictor.

Everyone here is going to do their stupid thing where they talk about what a team did last year as a reason why they are some kind of pushover this year. I’m just glad if we win tomorrow Coach Cal will have a week of prep before Virginia.

Purdue had 9 losses and Virginia 3 and Purdue had 1 guy going wild I would take my chances that we have guys who can control Edwards enough while shutting down Cline...if we beat Auburn that is.

Exhibit A as why you Don’t foul up three.

Made one the refs won’t call over the back on that rebound play- see a Duke. And you lose.

Guard someone make them make a contested 3 with someone besides Guy and Purdue wins.

Even with that UVA outscored Duke and UNC on a points per poss basis and it wasn't particularly close.

ACC W-L Pace PPP Opp. PPP EM
1. Virginia 16-2 60.4 1.16 0.93 +0.23
2. North Carolina 16-2 74.3 1.12 0.97 +0.15
3. Duke 14-4 71.9 1.09 0.97 +0.12
4. Florida State 13-5 67.9 1.04 0.97 +0.07
5. Louisville 10-8 68.2 1.04 0.97 +0.07
6. Virginia Tech 12-6 63.3 1.09 1.03 +0.06
7. Clemson 9-9 66.0 0.99 0.95 +0.04
8. NC State 9-9 70.7 1.05 1.04 +0.01
9. Syracuse 10-8 67.3 1.00 1.00 0.00
10. Miami 6-12 67.1 1.01 1.09 -0.08
11. Boston College 5-13 66.9 0.98 1.09 -0.11
12. Notre Dame 3-15 64.8 0.97 1.08 -0.11
13. Pitt 3-15 66.7 0.95 1.08 -0.13
14. Georgia Tech 6-12 66.3 0.91 1.04 -0.13
15. Wake Forest 4-14 68.5 0.93 1.13 -0.20

I mean I don't know maybe UVA had a slightly easier schedule..........but still.........what they did in conference compared to UNC and Duke........was outstanding.

none of that really matters. What does matter is who has the better players and the better Coach. Now if Kentucky plays Virginia and doesn't execute then Virginia will win but if Kentucky executes Virginia won't defeat Kentucky. From what I saw tonight as long as we don't leave them wide open for 3 we should be fine on defense. I'm more worried about Auburn at this point so it's really hard to even think about Virginia.

We might have better players and a better coach.

Do we have the better team?

I'm not entirely sure about that one.

I mean UVA is 32-3 for a reason. You don't get that in major conference play by having a poor team.

They are great.

First, liked the foul by Purdue at the end of regulation. I think Virginia was 7/10 on threes in second half at that point. If you don’t foul, only one bad thing has to happen for you to lose (or here go to OT) - they hit a 3. If you foul, several things have to go wrong for you: they hit the first free throw, they miss the second, they get the rebound, they hit the 2 (or 3). Unfortunately for Painter, all of those things happened.

Virginia is a much better team than Purdue. Period. Purdue’s 3 point shooting is exactly the same as UK’s - .364. They weren’t going to continue to shoot this way. Edwards is unbelievable today, but he’ll also completely shoot you out of a game if he’s not hot.

Neither team had been this far, so the question for me was how would they react once making it to the final four? I think Virginia, after last year, has been under tremendous pressure. I suspect once they make it to the final four, they will loosen up and all that pressure goes away. Purdue I figured is more likely to suddenly wake up - the ‘oh ****, we’re in the final four!’ kind of thing. I think Virginia relaxes now and will play very well, Purdue would have laid an egg and reverted to their true level.

All a guess, obviously

Wow he just said he didn't miss it on purpose the FT down 2. Had he made it they probably would have lost.

we should be comfortable in a grind it out game with virginia. if we hold them below 40% from three we should win imho. we’re more athletic at every position but one and really their center is more of a forward. and their real centers not very athletic. if our guards are tough and take care of the ball and we hit a few threes we should win imo. if we beat auburn of course.

everything’s at a premium in these game and our quickness needs to get us some extra/easy baskets. they could put execute us but it’s going to come down to rebounding. their whole thing is getting back on defense and we’re going to be attacking the offensive glass. they would get less shots and have to shoot lights out and go to the line more. which seems a hard task given we’re going to get the ball mote near the basket than they will. i like uk, if it happens by 8.

Purdue got screwed. I watched the replay and there was 5.9 seconds when the free throw was shot. The ball was tipped out and the ball was headed toward the backcourt and the clock hadn’t budged.

Looks like it moved to me. Maybe a tenth of a second delay at most.

Bottom line, when you get to this point, you've got to beat good teams to win a title.

I'd take a road of Auburn and UVA to get to a title game over the 2015 road we had with Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

Our fans will worry about any opponent, but I like our chances.

Just returned home from the game.

I can’t even wrap my mind around everything I just witnessed.

Feel terrible for Purdue fans. They packed the house tonight. Atmosphere was unbelievable.

Virginia, man. They don’t quit. Happy for Bennett. Hate his style all you want but the man is a helluva coach.
