I would be fine if Cal just made Willis do a lot of community service, during the summer, around Lexington. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't seem to remember hearing Willis getting into any type of trouble the past 3 years. So I don't think he needs a suspension. A guy at work said maybe suspend him from Midnight Madness, and just practice in the Craft during it (I believe that is what happened to one of our women's players). I thought that would be harsh for a senior, but it would send a message.
As long as he keeps his nose clean between now and the start of the season, I don't see the need for a suspension.
Derek needs to apologize to BBN and accept his discipline.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him suspended the first 10 games or so.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and got caught smoking. Dad made me smoke a whole pack to prove a point.Just make him drink till he hurls.

Thought it work again, so I told him a drank a beer. All he did was put a lock on his cooler.
Maybe suspend him for the first exhibition game, Michigan State is too important to suspend for just passing out drunk. This isn't a DUI, let's not go crazy.
Agree (and expect him to miss a game or games).[laughing] The thing is, Cal's players do the community service ANYWAY. I trust Cal, Derek will get what's coming to him as Cal see's fit. Ole Coach has broad shoulders. Go CATS!
So the kid got drunk. Who gives a ****?

You are assuming he drove. He may just as likely been coming from a nearby house and passed out as he opened the door.As a fan, I understand the incentive to sugarcoat and minimize this. But, if reports are correct, this was NOT your typical every day case of college kid passes out drunk. Instead, he apparently was passed out drunk on the street right next to the open driver side door of his car. Which suggests not only that he'd been driving drunk, but driving when he was SO drunk he couldn't even maintain consciousness.
He's extremely lucky that he's not facing more serious charges.

Or he heard a commotion outside and went to help an old lady across the street. When he got there, she hit him over the head with her purse, knocking him out. As he fell, he grabbed the car door, causing it to open. While he unconscious, the old lady poured her church wine down his throat. Then the cops showed up and mistakenly arrested him for being drunk. The alcohol then took affect and BAM he is drunk.

LOL! Here we go. So much concern about winning the opener that what is best for the program and the player are overlooked. Willis will draw a punishment that should include a suspension. Calipari is responsible for far more than 1 basketball game, and he is far too smart to underplay this and send the wrong signal.Maybe suspend him for the first exhibition game, Michigan State is too important to suspend for just passing out drunk. Wouldn't surprise me to see him suspended the first 10 games or so. I think it's worse than just getting busted at a party in Lexington or something. Shows some pretty poor judgement. Also wouldn't surprise me if it's handled internally and doesn't miss any games. We'll see.
You know Cal is going to grill Willis and get to the bottom of what happened, whether we know the details or not.
I think the punishment will fluctuate based on what he's told and how forthright he is with the truth. IMO, Cal has
always been a fair when dealing with his players, but in a case like this, I'm certain he will be firm and dole out
the appropriate discipline.
Since a vehicle is undoubtedly involved here, my guess would be a suspension between 5 games and a semester.
I agree. I have no idea how long the suspension will be. That is up to Coach Calipari. But there has to be a suspension. It is incredible to see some people acting like this is nothing. Willis is old enough to graduate from college, get married, have a job, have a family. He could have gotten himself or someone else killed. If Bam was there, then Willis was contributing to his delinquency. Maybe he was just blowing off some steam, but his judgment in the matter was flawed enough to hurt or kill someone. And maybe he has a drinking problem. After a stunt like this, that's the 1st thing that must be considered. Calipari is a good man. He won't blow this off.You know Cal is going to grill Willis and get to the bottom of what happened, whether we know the details or not.
