RTB just landed 3* DT Malcolm Robinson. Bolds is running out of options and that should tell you something.

Where will he end up? Do we have a shot at this guy?

do we have a shot?

you assume he's a take for us...maybe, maybe not...but definitely not a guarantee

and I am not spilling any confidential info...but the fact that he didnt visit anyone this past weekend should clue you in on how limited his actual options are right now

one way or another, hope things work out for the kid.

Not sure why we would not take a commitment from Bolds and Hand....would boost overall Rivals ranking and if they dont make it and grey shirt.

Some folks may not believe it - but the process is beginning to work for Rutgers - and as it does, there may be situations where difficult assessments may be made in a bit different manner. Cost/Benefit kind of evaluation may work out differently when the team attitude is climbing - and you more carefully consider how a prospect with 'issues' - what ever they are - might impact the culture that you are building.

The addition of Kill & Erb has probably refined & elevated the ability to evaluate the intangibles - if their reputations are justified - they have the knack for recognizing attributes that will add value to a team - and a sense of what may best be avoided.
For example - if you have a particular spot where you are going to need a selfless, gritty, bulldozer for specific role-player challenges - you might not grasp for a 4-star with a hunger for the spotlight - you might find an unheralded prospect that is willing to run through walls - and since you have a resume & credentials - you may not have any reservations about acting on your instincts.

We have a shot, but it is not a lock just yet.
Think we have academic issues here plus the major fall off from all Div 1 programs offering scholarships to him, is the red flag that the kid is just not that good. Injuries his senior year does play a part here. Think Juco for the young man.

You might be right, but we shall see what happens.

Do you believe any staff takes a kid because it will help their Rivals ranking?

Wish the kid the best but there has to be a reason so many schools have appeared to back off, no?
Many schools have cooled off on this kid. Could be another Nate Robinson in the making. Huge expectations...

Sense the same thing - has the marking of a case where a kid was on an amazing natural ascent - and then for various reason the wind went out of the sails - may take a bit of a re-calibration physically ... mentally ...determination ... priorities - or what ever ...hope he gets things squared away in the manner that provides him with best success in life

Still wear my Nate Robinson jersey to games. May be time for a Bolds one but I do not want to jinx the kid.

Hand would be foolish to go to Baylor after the latest stories surfaced on Friday..Rhule is heading for big sanctions

Have a hunch that Rhule will draw upon the old Bill O'Brien script and sales pitches (that O'Brien use at PSU) -it will be tough sledding - but in the case of Hand, Rhule may be able to pitch it a bit stronger because Hand grew in the general area - Rhule can play off of the "us against the world" - "you will be one of our stars" .... but wow Rhule has a monumental task ahead of him... a bit like trying to sell a charming weekend house in suburban Chernobyl....lots of people will say .... uh .... pass

I'm not judging the case, but you do have a SMU grad writing about Baylor. That's a little like a Syracuse grad writing (or editing) for the Star Ledger with respect to Rutgers.
also..there is no defending what went on a Baylor,no matter who wrote the article...(get your point though)

A new lawsuit filed against Baylor and obtained by The Dallas Morning News on Friday alleges that there were at least 52 "acts of rape" by 31 Baylor football players from 2011 to 2014. This included five gang rapes, at least two of which were committed by 10 or more players at one time, according to the lawsuit. These numbers are significantly higher than previously disclosed by Baylor's regents.

Does Rhule have an "out-clause" here? not that I care but damn you walk into a bad situation and all the sudden it goes nuclear. He could argue he was lied to by the Baylor administration.

I digress...

Hand won't be coming here.

I find it amusing how many people are wondering if any player of his caliber is a "take". Who do you think we are?

Most of our recruits are kids with low-tier Power 5 offers at best. So to not "take" a kid who is top 15 in state, with 16 Power 5 offers including Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State is silly, regardless if they've cooled on him or not. So instead of beating out teams like Syracuse, UConn, and BC. I'll be happy to have a kid who at one point was a 4 star with the 2 best coaches in our conference wanting him and who was liked enough by elite teams to receive offers. If no good team really wants him, his weakest offers are us, Maryland, Illinois, Kentucky, Boston College and Michigan State.. So I'll take a recruit over that crop alone.

I know it's just a narrative to soften the blow if he doesn't come here but it's not like we're running out of room, all set at DT or are better than a high/mid-tier 3 star. You take him if he wants to come here before he goes to one of the other 7 Big Ten teams that have offered him and has 3 sack games against us.

EVERYBODY has cooled on this kid - again don't know entirely what happened - but where there's smoke there's fire.

I still don't see the downside of bringing him in. If he doesn't work out he doesn't work out.

Speaking of which, in situations like this is there anything that really keeps a kid like this from committing somewhere he has an offer?

For example if Bolds just comes out and commits to Michigan even though they haven't talked to him in months and maybe even told him they're moving on, is there anything to prevent a kid from committing and signing somewhere where he has been offered if they no longer want him?

Besides the fact that it seems Bolds has few options, we are nearly out of room and even some good 3 star kids who we thought were automatic takes are being slow played or told we no longer have room.

How are we out of room? We had 4 EE's meaning we only have 19 taken scholarships this year which opens up 6 more not counting any kids that have/will transfer. We need linemen. On both sides. Don't see any negative to taking Bolds and having him in camp. If he's that bad or that big of a liability off the field, you move on.
