Heart says 10-2 head says 8-4.

Martinez stays healthy and I think we have a top 10 offense. If the defense can be top 40 I think we can win 10. If the defense is less than top 40 then our win total will decrease relative to how bad our defense is.

Just simulated the entire season. I did each game only once. Here are the results:

W NU 47, S.Bama 17
W NU 37, @Fluffs 31
W NU 49, N.Illinois 13
W NU 48, @Illinois 10
L tOSU 21, NU 16
W NU 38, Northwestern 20
W NU 34, @Minnesota 31
W NU 49, Indiana 16
L @Purdue 17, NU 16
W NU 45, Wisconsin 35
W NU 28, @Maryland 26
W NU 37, Iowa 27

Last year NU went 1-5 in one-score games. This sim has us going 3-2 in those games while winning the rest with relative ease. Seems a tad optimistic to me, but no doubt our ability to finish the close ones will write the script.

From the sims I ran it has Maryland close every single time and only gives us 51% chance to win. Very interesting.

I DONT KNOW!! Lol I will wait until the end of the Iowa game to make my prediction. I will have a better idea of where the team is at that point. Just call me Nostradamus!

Maryland is a bit of a trap game, between important divisional games against Wisconsin and Iowa (the latter on a short week leading up to Black Friday). Being late in the year, injuries and/or weather could play a major role.

The Terps always have athletes and skill position guys. Maryland is the birthplace of Under Armour just as Oregon is the birthplace of Nike. They put guys in the NFL even when they're bad. So it could get tense if it comes together for them and our guys take the game lightly.

Still, 51% seems really low. Will Mike Locksley's first Maryland team get the best of Frost's second NU team? Not likely but, again, gotta prove it on the field.

About time after 8 years!

I think he was questioning SWIowahawks' prediction of Indiana winning in Memorial, but Indiana playing in Memorial at all is an upset of sorts.

2019 will be NU's 9th year in the B1G and yet, this is only our 2nd game against the Hoosiers as conference mates. (NU played an isolated game in Bloomington in 2016.)

Different thread, but unbalanced schedules indeed.

well i hope predicting all on O can stay healthy (QB, 3 or 4 of the top 5 RBs and at least 4 of the top 7 WRs) and the D improves to at least top 35 in the meaningful categories will mean 8-9 wins, with 10 being pie in the sky with a lucky break top end max for this group this year, IMO. I am not convinced they have the top two inches it takes discipline wise across the board, or the leaders just haven't taken the correct tact to impress upon the masses properly the championship mindset demanded to win 10 plus games yet. I fully expect them to get beat once or twice and give away a win or two and hope they prove me wrong.

I'm gonna say 9-3 and lose tiebreaker in West. I just get this feeling we need to go 10-2 to get to Indy. We'll be right there in a close race.

Simulations take into account returning production, but in Maryland's case they don't consider the coaching transition and the complete overhaul of the offense.

1. Maryland is shifting from a Power based Spread Option game to a Wide Open Passing attack.
2. While the transfer of Jackson gives them a good QB, their receivers are terrible with no experience.
3. Their offensive line was recruited to emphasize run blocking. They are going to struggle mightily in pass pro.
4. Locksley has a terrible track record as a head coach - 3-31 to be exact. He is the worst hire in the Big Ten - and its not close.
5. They return only 3 starters on defense.

I truly believe Maryland is going to have a miserable season and will be 2-8 when Nebraska comes into town.

I'll go with Moos. Get 6 wins and a bowl and everything after that is bonus.
I understand why Moos said what he said, keep expectations low and everything above that is looked at as a great accomplishment. Say something like 8 wins and getting below it is looked at as a failure. So I do understand. However, we are Nebraska. Getting 6 wins should not be looked at as an expectation or acceptable any year. One doesn't have to believe this team can get 8, 9 or 10 wins but as least show confidence in ones team and players that they can.

Give me 9-3 if Martinez stays healthy all year AND we don't get a crazy run of injuries at another offensive position. Give me a shade under .500 in any game he can't go.

Yep. I'd say the same. 9-10 wins if he is healthy 6-7 if he is not.

Ohio St. might not be as difficult as people think. Lot's of rumors flying that Fields has some sort of medical issue and they are scrambling at QB.

There is no chance they lose to Indiana, wisc and Iowa. No chance we lose to Indiana. No chance we loose to both Iowa and wisc

He’s an absolute Iowa homer...good dude but a Iowa homer all the way. He’s naturally going to assume Iowa will beat us every time. And I agree, we won’t lose to the Hoosiers and we will beat both (or at least one) Iowa and/or Wisconsin. Wisconsin has a good RB but outside that they have a no experience at QB, breaking in a new Oline and LBs and several others. Iowa won’t have the offense anywhere near last year and their defense is going to take a small step backwards compared to last year Iowa team.

Appears to be a much easier schedule this year so flip 4-8 to 8-4.

I think our D line will be improved as well. If anything we for sure are bigger than last year. We aren't going to be pushed around as easy. So Wisc and Iowa run yardage won't be as easy coming as years past

Oh boy, for me the biggest variable by far is our defense. I just don't know. But if they can just quit giving up endless 3rd & longs all year long.....it would help a lot!

And this isn’t the Iowa board starting another thread about the obsession..

Come on, he's a good dude. No problem with him making a prediction.

(Finally hit a thousand post and wasted it sticking up a dang Herkie! Damn you @SWIowahawks! Laughing)

I don’t have a problem with him and enjoy his posts, but we don’t need another thread started about a prediction on what the Herky’s record is going to be..Winking

7-5. Multiple 4-8 seasons and still very questionable O line. Our best WR is gone and our main RB under a cloud. A number of question marks still on defense.

Remember the enthusiasm last year. I said 6-6 then and was still lower than everyone else and still too optimistic. For me, they have to prove it on the field. Talk is cheap.

Yep, he is a good dude. Homer yes, but good dude. My logic is if we are going to start a thread about Iowa they have every right to comment on it. Just as we do over there.

We need a good pass rusher on 3rd and long. There’s nothing to indicate that we have one yet. Hopefully that will change.

Just lost an experience WR to ACL for 2019.

Maryland wide receiver Jeshaun Jones out for 2019 season with torn ACL
