And the innocent people in Afghanistan. They are going through hell right now. Let’s hope they get home safe

Please keep politics out of this thread. We will have plenty of time to discuss why this happened. For now lets give our thoughts, efforts, and prayers to the people that need them

I will keep my personal political opinions to myself, but I will say it is disgusting and disheartening what the government has done with this sh*tshow.

Politicians on both side of the aisle should be absolutely embarrassed about how this has unfolded, and now our own soldiers who were put back IN to hell are starting to pay the price again.

This is only the beginning of the atrocities that are going to take place under Taliban rule, not to mention ISIS and other terror groups are coming back into the fold.

Prayers for all members of the armed forces and our country.

Thank God we have football right around the corner.

I stopped paying attention to news about 5 years ago, it's just not worth it. But this really pisses me off.

I don't care for the sensationalized and politicized interpretations from either side, be that politicians, media, or anyone else. Let's all just call a spade a spade - this is an atrocity in every sense and, as bad as it is now, the ripple effect is yet to be determined.

It's heartbreaking for our service members and their families, above all else.

I said it on a previous thread and I'll say it again, there are 4 (at least) presidents that deserve some of the blame for everything that has unfolded in Afghanistan over the past 20+ years. If you deny that you are fooling yourself with your political bias.
I agree with your general point. But that doesn't change the fact that what has happened there in the past few months (i.e. the execution of America's exit from Afghanistan) falls on the shoulders of this administration. There must be accountability for what has happened, and I would say that regardless of whose administration it was.

And none of them have anything to do with the way this debacle has been handled..My 9 year old literally could've done a better job..The one thing he has in common with all 4 presidents is he was around and played apart in all 20 years of it..He also was apart of the Vietnam **** show..

Prayers up

Hoping this doesn’t turn political. Have a bunch of buddies, many that I served with back in 2016, currently in Kabul with the 82nd… praying
Unfortunately, everything in this world is political. We're long past the days of "lets hope it doesn't turn political". Every aspect of our lives is driven by politics. Unfortunately, some refuse to acknowledge that like to pretend its not happening. Its here to stay and it sucks. But pretending that's not the case isn't helping and it certainly isn't going away.

But hey, as long as we get our Football Season we can at least pretend politics doesn't exist for a few months, right?

I couldn't be more saddened for anyone having to fight senseless wars that only fuel corruption. Its a tragedy, honestly. Meanwhile, China continues to be the world bully and releases viruses on the world with absolutely zero consequences. I'm seriously shocked the media hasn't found a way to blame the CCP Virus on Russia.

I hope every American Soldier has peace with them and makes it back home. Such a stupid thing to be happening right now.

Give Jocko control for a month, he knows what to do.

Return with extreme force, get every one of our civilians, troops, and allies out, and anyone who stands in our way will be mercilessly eliminated.

Extreme force is all jihadists understand.

no question, but start with Clinton. Bush should have gone in stronger and decimated the Taliban instead of letting them run to the caves. Pakistan not really being an ally certainly complicated things. By any measure, though, this exit is a disaster. For Biden to say that a 300k Afghan fighting force (which was a joke) should be able to hold the country and then it falls in days shows complete incompetence.

I agree with you that China is a world bully and I have no love for China in any way. But I am curious about your Russia comment. I believe Russia is involved in a lot of shady crap too. They have poisoned political opponents including one on British soil. A LOT of the ransomware comes from Russia as well. I guess I am curious about all of the love for Russia among many of the right. Could it not be that both are really bad, terrible countries?

No Love for Russia here. I guess I say that tongue in Cheek. They love to blame Russia but absolutely refuse to talk about how China has taken over the world and they have corrupted our government so much. They literally couldn’t get over the Russian interference in 2016 but crickets on on the 2020 election which was China… Russian was using social media to essentially try to sway votes. Could you imagine if Russian actually hacked the systems or even “possibly did so”? Man, it would have been mayhem.

Just strange to me that they are obsessed with Russia and not China. Our media refuses to talk about China and how they released a virus on the World.. A legit act of war.

We have a lot of fools here in America. This was going to be a shitshow no matter who the president was.

I agree with its been an ongoing problem but that has nothing to do with how Biden handled the withdrawal of troops and citizens. This is all on him whether you admit it or not.

I don't think we should have left. I didn't agree with Trump on that either.
We have troops stationed all over the planet and were down to 2,500 total troops in Afghanistan while Trump was still in office. Leaving a residual force of ground troops and air support should have been permanent for strategic military and national security purposes for the present and future.

Those prior presidents listened to their intelligence and military leaders. Despite them running their campaign on leaving the middle east because it sounds good to some voters and in polling, they didn't. They didn't do it because they were keenly aware that having a thumb on that region is important. Not just for our allies and the Afghans, but here in America.

**If you are going to leave, you shouldn't air out hard dates, swing a BIG stick and mean it when you say that if things don't go as planned we will bring scorched earth on your ***. But you have to mean it. They must be scared that we will go right back in and turn them into sand.

Never thought of that. We have thousands of troops in Germany and Korea still but completely bounced from Afghan and Iraq. Is a bit puzzling.

We could have absolutely continued to draw down troops there while providing support. Just do it subtle without making international noise. If things decline get it under control then continue a slow draw down. But do not announce hard dates or any strategic plan that is made public for votes or political reasons. That is for military intelligence ears only and should be kept confidential to keep any objectives from being compromised.

One of the differences is that the bases in Afghanistan have been taking mortar rounds and indirect fire for 20 years. Even though the number of casualties is lower than it was before, it still takes a significant toll on the military and it’s people.

Thanks for reminding me. Wtf was he doing announcing sept 11th date for cutoff withdrawal? It’s the absolute worst thing you could do in that situation.

just awful leadership.

You and I, nor anyone else needs to know strategic military objectives and dates. I trust my military to get the job done. Putting out those things in the media or for politics can put lives in danger and severely damage the mission or task at hand IMO.

And to be fair, Dem and Rep leaders have both done that over the years and I cringe each time.

According to documents from the State Department, the US embassy was warning Americans to get out (even offering to pay for airfare) starting on April 17 and following on May 15, May 17, June 8, June 28, July 15, July 20, August 7, and August 12. Obviously some chose not to follow those warnings.

First of all, prayers are always for our troops. There are no easy answers when it comes to that area of the world, and I hate that the US is expected to keep troops to protect the citizens over there after years of training their military. No simple answers or ways to get out. The Biden Administration certainly went in this blind, and it could have been handled much better I'm sure.

By th way, it was Russia again in the 2020 election. People around Trump (Chief of Staff, Barr, etc.) said China because they knew how upset Trump would be if they said Russia, but it is a fact that it was Russia again according to all intelligence/security agencies. With that being said both China and Russia are not to be trusted at all.

Were these documents public knowledge at the time? Or something that’s been released since ***** hit the fan?
