Don't think it was public knowledge, but it should be easily verifiable that warnings were sent. Might be that the distribution list was limited to people who had registered with the embassy upon arrival (not sure why someone WOULDN'T do that, but I'm sure it happens).

Hard to comprehend the courage it takes to stand eye-to-eye at those gates with all those civilians and screen for entry to the airport, knowing any one of them could be a suicide bomber. Praying for them and the people they are trying to help

We have a lot of fools here in America. This was going to be a shitshow no matter who the president was.

It depends on the parameters of your definition. This didn't need to go down this way. I know a lot of people who could have handled this without this taking place. It never had to be a **** show. But I can understand why some people want to say that to excuse the abject stupidity of the left in this country.

You and I, nor anyone else needs to know strategic military objectives and dates. I trust my military to get the job done. Putting out those things in the media or for politics can put lives in danger and severely damage the mission or task at hand IMO.

And to be fair, Dem and Rep leaders have both done that over the years and I cringe each time.

I don't trust any of the higher level generals. They have clearly demonstrated they are far too interested in politics. I agree with what a SEAL (can't remember his name) said earlier this week. Let's put the combat Col. and Maj. in charge. They at least understand tactics and what's going on.

At the tactical and probably the operational level I agree. However, as a blanket statement, not exactly . I feel for our military that is on the ground paying the price for the ****** way this withdrawal was handled by those above them all the way to the White House.

The military industrial complex has been a party to making sure that we kept the Afghan war going as long as it did. Generals and Businesses at war tend to stay at war and the war tends to take the shape of what the generals know and what industry helps promote in the name of profit. Simple physics.

Here is a quick article by one general officer who acknowledges that he was a moron. But don't feel bad for him. He's got a good job as a "strategic thinker" and also with 3 star general retirement pay, he's doing fine.

The problem is people register then leave and don’t remove themselves from the registry. Then you have others who show up and never register. There is no way to have a completely accurate idea of numbers. And, yes there were warnings. And, yes the state department will provide you air transport out. That does have to be paid back, though. If not, they will usually revoke passports or visas. The issue here was the warnings were based on (sound) intelligence that was being ignored and/or flat out contradicted publically by other high level officials.
