Fardaws expanding his range this last year could make him a real weapon. The mid major guy I want, who may not even go in the portal obviously, is Baylor Scheierman from South Dakota State. A skilled, smart, long, great shooting, playmaking wing would be a nice Grady replacement and upgrade.
There is a big difference in a capable backup and a guy that has proven himself enough to expect to start and play 30mpg.So we aren’t getting any of the best big men to be Oscar’s backup your 10-12 mpg.

I expect Cal doesn’t know yet about who is leaving. He may have an educated guess. But he had to assume they all are until they aren’t, otherwise you get behind recruiting a transfer and lose out on the best ones.

Idiot. I am not saying a Curry / Morant quality player are transferring to UK or anywhere else, he would go to the league. My point was that just because a player is at a mid- major foes not mean he is legtovers or trash. But if players that good can come from a MM, then guys a step below can as well, guys who can perform as good or better than 50% of the 5* in coming FR.
With a transfer you know more what you are getting, so you have a higher floor than a 5* FR but also a lower ceiling.
Also some players are very good college players but not pro material, maybe because undersized or a step slow, and this under recruited.
And some players simply take longer to develop. The extreme example was a 6’7 low rated F that went to Navy, and 3 years later was a 7’0 AA and future Dream Team player.
I think what's bubbling under the surface here more than anything (in terms of people not getting super excited about any of these guys at this point) is that we just don't know that we can trust the guy that's going to be coaching them to actually coach them up or win anything that matters with them.

In 2015 Karl Towns averaged a little over 20 minutes per game and was the number 1 pick. Pope and McCarty managed to both get lots of time in 96. I would rather share time and have fresh guys. Helps to have talent as backups if you have injuries. Cal needs to wake up and change big time. This is the University of Ky not some little **** school.

Basketball is way different than it was in 96. 2 bigs on the floor at the same time would never work it would ruin spacing. And now to many kids have egos and would be destroyed if they had to sit the bench
McCarty and Pope could play together even today. McCarty could play on the perimeter, he could really handle the ball for a guy his size. Pope could shoot it too. McCarty and Pope are not the type of bigs that would ruin spacing. They both shot over 40% from 3 point range.
There a rare example then, the four in college basketball needs to be like Murray from Iowa or jabari smith for auburn not in terms of skilll level because those two guys are the top of the college game but the four has to be versatile enough to shoot it from deep and help create space

Walter McCarty was a stretch 4 before the stretch 4 became a necessary part of the game. The guy was 6’10” and could put it on the floor. He shot 47% from 3 point range his junior year.
