I’m not arguing that they shouldn’t try to get some guys to fill the spots that are developmental players, but the idea you’re going to get more players that would make any kind of serious difference is fools gold. Especially big name transfers. They want to play and most want to start. I agree about the risk that presents with injuries, but not sure what you can really do about it other than be lucky.
I agree that most teams on average go about 8 deep, there are some that play just about everybody but once it gets to the dance, that number usually drops back to 7 or 8.However,most teams use their scholarship allotment and carry a full roster.
Yes,we will have transfers as we have seen but honestly,Hopkins doesnt transfer if Cal had given the kid a fair shot and I dont think anybody actually thinks he gave Bryce Hopkins a fair shot.
I just believe we should use the scholarships.Of course if there is a flat out player in the portal that could start for us and help then contact him but for the last few spots on the roster we would have no problem filling those spots for a season and then the scholarships would open back up the next season. If we don't want seniors from the portal then recruit some high school kids that can develop,at least we have options in case of injuries.

Since it is pretty obvious that next years team is "on the floor " I can only say I hope BOTH freshmen are as good as advertised. Saw Wallace play a couple of times , didn't come away very impressed BUT what can you really tell from one of those all star games I was much more impressed with Livingston, like his motor has some dog in him and a decent handle for a guy his size
I’m thinking the exact opposite. Wallace is gonna be a stud and I’m not sure Livingston gets to play much.

Oh,I believe we would have no problem at all filling those 11th,12th,and 13th scholarship spots.
But since Cal only wants 6 or 7 why even recruit for spots 8 thru 13.Just get 6 and roll out the ball.
You believing it don’t make it true though. Well we could, but you and everyone e else would be complaining at the quality of players willing to be victory cigars.

Not so sure.

Wallace replaces Washington.

Fredrick replaces Mintz. This is an upgrade if he is healthy.

Reeves replaces Grady.

Livingston at the 4 spot could be the x-factor. We got next to nothing shooting the 3 from that spot last year.

To me it’s all about how Cal uses the shooters. That’s what I am waiting to see.
That's definitely 2 outta 3 better the guards! If Wallace is better then tyty that's 3 better

I'm not worried about other teams. Why is it that other teams have to included...Hell the object is to be the best isnt it?
You can be for the team as is right now but we need some additional pieces to help offset an injury or somebody just having an off night.Whats the problem with that?
Cal has some of our fans believing we should only have 9/10/11 players max .I bet we are the only school in the country with 13 schollys and only fill 10/11 in the country!

Well at least they are "on the floor" rather than "on the bench"

I guess we'll see if this goes over your head...
2011 Final 4: 6 man rotation
2012 National champs: played 6 guys, Darius Miller off the bench.
2014 Final 4 team: Played 7 guys, 8 in a pinch
2015: Platoon, and he said it'll never happen again
2017 Elite 8 loss to UNC: Used a 7-man rotation, IF he was giving Humphries minutes
2019 Elite 8 Auburn: Again, 7-man rotation, IF being generous to a struggling EJ Montgomery/Richards

I just don't understand the fascination that some of BBN has for maxing out all scholarships. You really think the Platoon system can be implemented again in this era?

Only 5 UNC players played 10+ mins against Duke in the Final 4 - ONLY FIVE!!!! Coach K only used a 7-man rotation, and lost.

Villanova, 6-man rotation. Kansas had 7 players play 10+ mins - and that was with Lightfoot right at 10 mins. So sure, they might have some scrubs at the end of the bench getting a scholarship, but that doesn't impact the rotations at all BECAUSE THOSE PLAYERS ARENT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY!
So you don't understand why we would wanna be on a level playing field? Tell me a good reason we should not fill 13 schollys?

That’s every year for every team. Doesn’t matter how deep we are, we lose the wrong player and it’s over.

If Tshiebwe goes down, there is no replacement for him. Anyone adequate enough to replace him is not going to waste a year of eligibility sitting behind the reigning NPOY this season.

Sven Nater is the patron saint of all these players people want to come here. Never started at UCLA. 1974 ABA Rookie of the Year. 12 year pro career.

Nowadays you could more easily line your money bin with unobtanium than get a player to do that.

He's all but locked up according to what we're being told. He doesn't want to play with Harris at KU. He's visiting Gonzaga this weekend and then coming to Louisville next week and its assumed it will be a done deal then.

We can fill them, but those guys are just going to transfer out and will never play much here.

The only people we can probably get to come here and stay to be the 11th-13th scholarship are people from KY and then all of our fans will ***** when they do not play enough and say they are better than the 5th-8th guys when said players have an off-game because they were born in KY and got that Moxy and basketball IQ nonsense.

UCLA won 10 NCAA championships in a 12 year period. John Wooden did not believe in using more than a 7 man rotation, 8 in a pinch. Due to so many blow out games many players played a few minutes but when it came time for the real games, 7 man rotation. I do not remember a serious injury for Woodens teams during that time so it wasnt as apparent as our(most years) shorter quality bench has been..

Also coach K almost always goes with only 7-8, more laps kelt to go with 6 than 9+
