Accusations of county scholarships, rampant steroid use, bringing in thugs who couldn’t hardly graduate high school and having other students take their exams and/or willing professors give them passing grades, getting certain recruits laid / drugs / alcohol on recruiting trips, and so forth. Even the fans that had no examples would say - “there is no way a school in the middle of nowhere can have that good of a program without cheating. They are just really good at covering it up”.

I - like most on here - think these accusations are BS, but they were out there. Just like the Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State fanbases would say our accusations are BS today.

I guess you’re right…cheating in a different way. Not necessarily the “bag men” stuff. But yes…I remember all of that.

I’m sure Iowa was still obsessed with Nebraska in the 90s, but I doubt Wisky or Mich fans talked about Nebraska back then. Only lowly Iowa was obsessed with Nebraska even though they were in separate conferences.

You are correct - it bothered Iowa and others in the conference more - but when talking to others program’s fans - especially blue bloods like Michigan, Norte Dame, etc- many times comments were made about Nebraska cheating. They didn’t know how - but just assumed Nebraska could not be that good without cheating. It’s hard to remember now - but we were the Alabama of college football. They said the same thing about the Florida schools as well.
