I’ll just say…. When the coaches that have dominated the last 20 years are mad, that should be considered a positive for everyone else.

They wouldn’t be screaming if they thought they’d still be dominating in the future.

It's just a high paying minor league now.
Except that it takes up 85 scholarships at FBS schools that could otherwise be used to fund scholarships in sports where student-athletes truly embody the amateur ethos: men's swimming and diving, men's soccer, men's volleyball, baseball, ice hockey, etc. Keep football as a university-run entertainment enterprise co-funded by the professional league for which it is grooming these athletes — the NFL, which officially has a ****-ton of cash.

So good ole St Nick is crying a river because other schools can legally do what he’s been doing for the last
10+ years. I’m one fan that doesn’t care about his crying and whining, maybe now he wont be able to
stockpile 4-5 star players 3 deep on their roster

It could get worse in the future. There was a proposal in California that would force the California colleges to share 50% of their sports revenue with players. Imagine the chaos if California passed that as a law and other states did not follow. Imagine the inequity for players between those colleges earning a lot of money and those that were losing money. Not workable IMO but just shows you where some of the thinking is.

Meanwhile, Alabama players before NIL:

Reminds me a little of when Marcus Fleming went AWOL, posing in similar pictures not long before transferring to (relatively) down and out Maryland…. who also somehow landed one of the nation’s top defenders Terrence Lewis.

Cus ya know- most ballers wanna be at… Maryland, like they wanna be at Jackson St.

Once again, South Park was WAY ahead of the curve on this one. NIL wasn't even a term and Eric Cartman uttered it in this funny clip a long time ago.

I get what you are saying but without football the other sports you mentioned don’t exist.

Football is the funding mechanism the university uses to support the others. That doesn't change. Just don't give the players scholarships. Pay them as employees.

Some in California want to force their colleges to pay out half of their sports revenue to players. Imagine the differences in salaries between two different schools with vastly different revenue streams. Guess which school players will be fighting to get into.

For every kid getting paid, there's several more transferring out and not ending up anywhere. There's a lot of negative fallout from NIL and it will only continue.
Well thats their decision to transfer out. Nobody is forcing them to transfer out. If you transfer out and nobody picks you up, thats on you.

This is naive. Many kids are in fact goaded to transfer out by the coaches who no longer want them. And that's only more the case with how easy it is to bring in transfers now.

Which is exactly what Husker fans have been begging all of our coaches to do for years...get rid of the dead weight.

Saban still hasn't learned.

It's impossible to get into the mud with any former SWC school and come out on top.

They prefer it there. Just ask Ben Cotton trying to recover that fumble against TAMU in 2010.

And yet nobody can legally force them to transfer. They can either take that recommendation from coaches, or hold tight - even if though that means they don't play at all. Which they already weren't so...

This

I would love to see proof of one single actual negative fallout from NIL

so far, just a bunch of crusty clueless old dudes bellyaching about locker room chemistry while kids earn the money they deserve

if a dinosaur like nick saban wants to take his ball and go home, you can be sure the thing he’s afraid of is GREAT for college football on the whole
I think we should do away with the Internet too. Turn this into a newsletter

Saban is stirring the pot because he's hoping lawmakers will come to his rescue and impose laws to restore the previous situation. Won't happen and he probably knows that it's unlikely but he figures he has nothing to lose and its worth a shot.

Cheating works - look what happened to Nebraska after Tom Osborne stepped down.
Yep, I’m sure ole Tom was dishing out hundies left and right to those upperclassmen home grown starters to stick around and not head for the likes of Wyoming and Wayne state.

What did he mail , besides talking about himself, Jimbo is one of the biggest cheats and slimeballs in CFB.
Yah…he lost me when he said his “daddy” taught him not to lie or cheat and he embraces those values still today. Show of hands..who thinks Jimbo has never lied or cheated as a college football coach? Anyone? At same time…I’m sure Saban would like a do-over. Arrogant, narcissist who thought he needed to explain why Alabama finished #2 in recruiting to A&M this past year. Btw what did their Qb make this past year? 7 figures? What’s good for the goose….

Haha what an incredibly dumb statement. I get the hatred you have for NU right now but wow.
A majority on this message board say many of the teams winning National Championships today are cheating. Back in the 90’s when Nebraska was playing in and winning multiple National Championships, most other fanbases accused us of cheating.

See a pattern? People are jealous of winners and lazily throw out cheating as the reason a program has unbelievable success over another program.

I don’t remember other programs accusing Neb of cheating in the 90s. Most of the criticism towards the program came from writers questioning the handling of players who demonstrated questionable behavior off the field.

There were accusations of steroid use. A different kind of cheating I guess.

You may not have heard it as this was before the internet, but traveling for work through the Midwest/upper Midwest in old B1G and Big 8 country - there were accusations from outside fans constantly. Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, K State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Colorado fans to name a few.

Accusations of county scholarships, rampant steroid use, bringing in thugs who couldn’t hardly graduate high school and having other students take their exams and/or willing professors give them passing grades, getting certain recruits laid / drugs / alcohol on recruiting trips, and so forth. Even the fans that had no examples would say - “there is no way a school in the middle of nowhere can have that good of a program without cheating. They are just really good at covering it up”.

I - like most on here - think these accusations are BS, but they were out there. Just like the Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State fanbases would say our accusations are BS today.
