Your mechanic appreciates that!I offer to tip the same way in all businesses
It really is hard not to when they're staring you in the face and then you have to wait for your order. My wife is the opposite. She tips on everything and it has caused more than a few arguments in the past.
My wife's psycho step mom used to put the tip on the edge of the table right when they sat down. Told the server that was their tip and their job to earn it. ...she pull back money each time they did something she didn't like. SHe's nuts, but I don't think she was necessarily wrong either. If 20%+ is the expectation regardless of service, then just get rid of tipping, increase the price to compensate an pay the employees. I'm tired of tips. Do any other countries still participate in this?Bad service still expects a tip. It's out of control.
He would have got cold shoulder and hot tongue. It really is hard not to when they're staring you in the face and then you have to wait for your order.
Tonight for example. Went to the Sox vs Yanks game. Paid for Club tickets which gave us an "in seat waiter". I ordered and then added a hotdog and piece of pizza. 4 innings later the dude finally shows up calling for last call, I'm like "I never got my first order". Blah,.blah, blah they're super behind. What I ordered should be a 5 min walk and grab. Most basic staples of sporting events. He said he'll comp everything AFTER I paid him and tipped him. Bad service still expects a tip. It's out of control.
I do tip my local hospitality folks big because they take care of us..
Be careful @m.knox will think you're just a poor. He doesn't think employers should pay employees. He thinks we should. He also loves subsidies.Tip someone for doing their job in a non-service position? He11 to the no. No one tips me for what I do.

Had to vote "no tip" as that's what I do the vast majority of the time. I will make an exception for a local place I know only has one location and needs all the support they can get, as small businesses don't generally do well here.
Sounds like a real *****.My wife's psycho step mom used to put the tip on the edge of the table right when they sat down. I would dine out with her once, see that act and never dine with her again. My wife's psycho step mom used to put the tip on the edge of the table right when they sat down. Sounds like a way to get some special service spit right onto your food.My wife's psycho step mom used to put the tip on the edge of the table right when they sat down. She is insufferable. Her husband, Mrs. Alaska's biological father, is worse. He turns every conversation into something political. Heck, if the service is slow at said resturant, he'll make it political. ...I digress.I would dine out with her once, see that act and never dine with her again.
Ya, it's getting out of hand. Again, nothing wrong with throwing a few bucks in the tip jar at the Baskin Robbins for the kid who went above and beyond to make your kiddo's experience better. But this constant, everywhere you go, in every situation expectation to pay 20%+ over for anything and everything is ridiclous. Quit calling it a tip. Just call it a surcharge.I quit going to most places that want a tip for counter service. The one place I really like that has counter service I try and remember to bring cash and toss loose change or a dollar in the jar.
I would like a state law that outlaws tipping requests for counter service.
