I've been a long time reader on the site, but this is my first post. Sorry if there is another thread. Besides me does anyone else believe that the Pitino named banner in Rupp will/should come down.

It needs to come down but if you don't do it now then you won't ever be able to do it. Do it now and the media won't object, do it later when things cool down and UK is the focus opening itself up for some criticism. Honoring him is an embarrassment, he's one of the biggest crooks in college basketball history.

On another thread about the banner someone suggested that they put a big red circle around his name with a red line through it. I personally would love the world to see that we have stricken him from our lore.

IF all is 100% proven and we are not far from finding it out, it has to come down. I am also on the board taking down Richie Farmers.

It is a great honor for any team to retire your jersey but it goes both ways. I think we should replace it with Tubby's. We all were tough on Tubby, but he is one of the classiest guys in a dirty buisness. And he definitely didn't recurit dirty...

Torn here and not so fast. His banner is up for what he did here for OUR program. Which in my opinion, he was a 10/10 at the time. Let us not forget this!

Many will not agree and that's okay. It's why we discuss these things.

I'm not forgetting what he did here, but, it shows how he really felt about the program when he first, went to UL, and then, tried to tear us down every chance he got. He was forever making public comments about UK, giving UK fans the finger, etc. What he did while he was here is far outweighed by what he did after. I am not sure that I am in favor of taking it down, but if it was, he deserves it.

Well, should Pete Rose's accomplishments as a player be separated from his betting on baseball as a manager? All points are valid I suppose.

I say Rick's accomplishments as coach here having nothing do with his behavior at U6' IMO.

He's just a completely different dude now than he was when he was here. Like he's "twisted and evil".

Hell no. Are any of you guys old enough to remember the state our basketball program was in when Pitino came? He brought us out of probation and made us feared again. He brought us a title and damn near a second one. What he did for us has no comparison to what went on at UL. Hate him all you want, but what he did for UK more than makes up for his ways at UL. Don't let your hate cloud your reasoning.

So, some want to replace him with Tubby, because Tubby was a classy guy? The same Tubby that slipped out of town to take another job? The same Tubby that refused to replace terrible assistants? The same Tubby that put his son above UK basketball? The same Tubby that refused to work his *** off recruiting? That is what you call classy? Tubby was lazy as the day was long. While I commend him for winning a title here, that is where it stops for me.

Pitino has repeatedly cheated AT THE GAME OF BASKETBALL!

Of course he shouldn't be honored with a jersey in the rafters of the number one program in the country.

There's another way of lookin' at it, Pitino brought UK back from probation to the national championship and put our rivals on probation. Plus he's been a great source of comedy. If you can leave it up just for that reason, it'd be OK, otherwise, take it down and burn it.

Maybe put the banner in another place in Rupp consistent with Pitino's legacy.

A frequently stopped up men's toilet maybe?

Whatever the 'credentials' and/or qualifications are for a coach to have a jersey up there should be reviewed and a decision made based on that. IMO.

Not going to get butthurt if it stays or goes. This kinda stuff either didn't happen in Lexington or he wasn't caught. If Beard's and Groza's name can hang up there, so can his. OR if the school says it's gone, that's their right. Same with the Confederate statues afaic.

It stays, Pitino brought us out of an abysses thanks to Eddie Sutton, what he did for U.K. in the time span he did it was no small feat. I respect and appreciate him for what he did for us, I believe he has been trying to duplicate it his entire career at any cost to message his giant ego and make his place among the elites of college basketball coaches. Sadly his approach to win at any cost has shattered his legacy :basketball: He was great in his day.... Thank You Rick.
I hope he has the integrity remaining to just ride off onto the sunset and let history write itself.

UK's NC banner shouldn't come down, and it won't. The UL NC banner is coming down because UL cheated and got caught by the NCAA. Do you have any evidence that UK cheated in 1996?

You can't change history. Statues, monuments, pictures, names and what they stood for will always be embedded. Tearing something down is following the liberal path. Leave it alone, it is history and he brought us some good history. I don't like the guy anymore but it is what it is.

Here's my point.

Kentucky doesn't need to take into down over what he did at Louisville. Our programs are not connected and that wouldn't give An appearance they are.

Rick will look back at his coaching days and only have that banner. He was completely defeated by UK. I like it, and I am fond of my memories of his teams here. Our program was clean, and we had some of the Best teams assembled here.

It could also cause problems with our former players. I don't want that.

There's no reason to take it down. Keeping it up is more punishment for Pitino than taking it down.

That's another thing. Enough with this "burn history" bs. Ricks time HERE is what it is.

It won't come down anyway. Cooler heads will prevail.

If the NCAA would allow it would Pitino be welcomed back as head coach at UK? Would he be considered a Prodigal Son by our fan base?

I'm in the minority. I'm glad he is leaving Louisville with no way of calling them his home and can never return.

We are literally all he has. He gets to deal with that.

I'd cheer him a solid loud as possible in a few years. For his time here.

Ok kill me, I don't care.

LOL. No I don't do that. You have an opinion that I respect. I just see things differently because I remember all of the rumors when he was our coach involving cheerleaders and women. He didn't start with his sex issues when he got to Louisville. I was glad when he left because every season he would flirt with the NBA. He always denied having an interest but finally he jumped.

Now a lot of the UK fans base do not like Rick for one reason or another but there is nothing like the hate some Boston Celtic fans have for him. I have a friend living in Plymouth, Mass and of course a huge Celtic fan. He said Pitino had Red Auerbach fired when he took over as head coach. I don't know if that is true but a lot of Celtic fans think so and they hate him for it. But who knows?

Right. And as much as I love what's happening, I hate it too.

My first years of basketball camps, going to Rupp, watching practices at memorial, And Kentucky basketball in general all started with Pitino. He started Kentucky in my mind, for me. I idolized the guy and have always had trouble with it.

Just wish he had never left and started this mess.

Paterno's statue was taken down and trees planted in it's place. Maybe we could hang a necklace of garlic in the place where his banner once hung...just in case.
