Here's my point.

Kentucky doesn't need to take into down over what he did at Louisville. Our programs are not connected and that wouldn't give An appearance they are.

Rick will look back at his coaching days and only have that banner. He was completely defeated by UK. I like it, and I am fond of my memories of his teams here. Our program was clean, and we had some of the Best teams assembled here.

It could also cause problems with our former players. I don't want that.

There's no reason to take it down. Keeping it up is more punishment for Pitino than taking it down.

It's not like I'm going to to lead a campaign against him.

But let's say Hitler was our coach. He did a great job, but then he became, you know, Hitler.

Still leave his jersey up?

Figured I'd invoke Godwin's Law and get this over with.

There's really no arguing it. It's like screaming racist in a crowded theater.

At some point a recording of lil Deuce arranging payments is going to go public, and it's going to be bad. I'd take it down then.

Yeah, I agree. Taking it down would make it seem as if the University is acknowledging that there was wrongdoing during his tenure here. I also agree it would totally infuriate those players that played on that particular championship team, not to mention other players that played for him here.

I've long defended keeping his banner but after all this I say it must come down. It's a total embarrassment to have this scum bag hanging in such prominence. Like the great Gus McCrae said.... "you ride with an outlaw, you die with an outlaw....Im sorry you crossed the line."

No matter what good he once did, we simply can't forgive his total moral collapse.

Yes but AT Louisville.

Rick caused enough damage by just taking the job. There's no reason to compound the issue by potentially alienating players and coaches during those times.

Just let it hang and he gets to see for the rest of his life how Kentucky made him and broke him.

The guys a Kentucky hero. He pulled UK out of the depths at our darkest times and made us a powerhouse again. Then he took our biggest rival, our most hated program, and embarrassed them continuously over and over and over. Name a coach in history that has won a title for a program and completely demolished their rival.
He set Louisville back for so many years, he made them the joke of basketball for the next 20 years.

I'm not sure why such bitterness, he's a legend.

Torn here and not so fast. His banner is up for what he did here for OUR program. Which in my opinion, he was a 10/10 at the time. Let us not forget this!

Many will not agree and that's okay. It's why we discuss these things.
If you witnessed the depths of probation and the turnaround it's hard to not be nostalgic for that time. I was torn before this scandal, but that's it for me. The man has turned out to be a despicable human being.

That's a thing a lot of people are going to debate about, he was a legend here and a disgrace there. The man fell from grace in a big way went he went to Louisville. I have never understood the move because he said he made the biggest mistake of his life leaving Camelot and then turns around and goes to U of smell, so it was all talk and all about Rick. That's two big mistakes that will haunt him the rest of his life, now he's in denial of whats happened, his soap opera life is going down hill fast.

Hell no. Are any of you guys old enough to remember the state our basketball program was in when Pitino came? He brought us out of probation and made us feared again. He brought us a title and damn near a second one. What he did for us has no comparison to what went on at UL. Hate him all you want, but what he did for UK more than makes up for his ways at UL. Don't let your hate cloud your reasoning.

So, some want to replace him with Tubby, because Tubby was a classy guy? The same Tubby that slipped out of town to take another job? The same Tubby that refused to replace terrible assistants? The same Tubby that put his son above UK basketball? The same Tubby that refused to work his *** off recruiting? That is what you call classy? Tubby was lazy as the day was long. While I commend him for winning a title here, that is where it stops for me.

The Tubby rant is good, but his banner isn't up there, yet. Does it make its way up there after all those years? I think it does even if your points are valid and we wouldn't hire Saul.

Sounds like there are lots who just want to do away with the history of what Rick did here because of who he is today. I'd say it stays up with the other banners.

Its like removing the Confederate statues in a sense that the history will only be read about if someone chooses to open up a history browser. Those statues were visible and are part of how we got to where we are today.

Question! What if it was uncovered that Pitino engaged in NCAA rules violations while at Kentucky. Would that change the opinion we should continue to honor him with the highest honor a Kentucky player or coach can have?

I don't think or should I say I pray nothing like that happened but it is Pitino and he is a snake of all snakes. He is honored by our University with love and adoration by having his name exposed every time we enter Rupp and every time we play basketball on TV. The camera will show his name and go into his transgressions. He will be more identified with Kentucky than UL because we show case his name.
