I'll preface my comments with the caveat, "I hate discussing officiating." It feels lame and "excuse-driven." Nonetheless, here I am participating in another officiating thread. That said, mcbb officiating is TERRIBLE. SEC officiating is atrocious and seems to be the worst of all the major conferences. IMO, no sport is effected more by the officiating than mcbb. The "product" has become nearly unwatchable. IMO, they are TOO involved in the game. Officials absolutely affect the outcome of games. IMO, it is very unfortunate, and I think it is ruining the game.
I feel like many of these comments can all be true. Vandy was almost exclusively a jump shooting team the majority of the game. Why would they draw as many fouls as UK who was feeding the post constantly and driving to the basket? It was clear. Vandy was fouling and hacking the crap outta Sarr. It was clear it was part of their game plan. The "word" is out on Sarr. Sarr has a tendency to play "soft." Vandy tried to rough him up. It was clear as day. Vandy should have been called for 10+ more fouls than UK. It was part of their "game plan." UK hit their FTs, so that part of Vandy's game plan didn't work.
Further, Pippin (an excellent player) was creating nearly all of the contact on his "fouls". I hate that part of the game. A player shouldn't get that call when they intentionally seek the contact. However, that is the game today. Credit to the kid. He was smart enough to take advantage of the "calls."
