Leach’s “successful” QB’s elsewhere averaged 10.2 yards per completion . Tonight, a true freshman for Leach averaged 6.5 yards per completion. Where do you think those other 4 yards per completion?
1) offensive line that gives the QB and Receivers 1 more second.
2) receivers breaking tackles or making the first guy miss and fighting fir those extra yards or breaking free.
We have neither on this team. We start 3 seniors, a sophomore and a redshirt freshman in the line and obviously we have no one that can beat any of them out on our depth chart. We have receivers who not only don’t break tackles or avoid the tackle they get knocked backwards by the defenders. And we have 23 of those guys that can’t do that. Vandy’s 2 primary receivers and their RB were breaking tackles all night and getting 5-10 YAC. We have a true freshman QB that doesn’t yet know when to throw it away and instead takes 10-15 yard sacks, on first down twice tonight, and 2nd and 3 once tonight. Vandy’s Oline was better then ours tonight. Let that sink in. 0-5 Vandy has a better Oline than State does. Truely sad. And it wasn’t the “3-8” that shut our offense down tonight. It was their 6 men on the LOS. Every time in the first half that they put a 3 man front , they backpedaled their next 4, giving us the 6 yard plays. Then in short yardage, they would go with 3 down, and bring 1 up on the end, and we would shift the running back away from that side and run that forward toss for the first down. After our 3rd series, they adjusted to 3 down and walked 2 Outside LBs up to take that away. In the second half they went to 4 down and still walked the two LBs up on each side to take that toss away. And of course when we didn’t run it, they just brought all 6 and our 5 linemen not only didn’t block 4 or 5 of them, they were so confused, they blocked NONE of them. Sad, Sad, Sad.
Edited to summarize: after watching that crap tonight in person, it is the Jimmies and Joes, not the Xs and Os.
