Disagree with 1st statement. Agree with 2nd statement.
As we learned from the FBI investigation, the dollar amounts being thrown around amount to petty cash.
Recruiting blue chippers comes down to who can sell themselves as the best conduit to the millions that wait in the NBA. Penny, Miller, and Mitchell played a combined 44 seasons in the NBA. Mitchell was a NBA COTY and spent almost 15 years on an NBA bench. That’s the attraction.
Like most NCAA investigations (cough OM), there's what you are 90% sure of, and then there's what you can prove.
Bigger transactions generally have smarter people managing them. I think the same applies to this FBI thing. They catch the dumb-asses fairly easy, it looks like they're doing their job, errbody happy. Except all this pub means some have to go to NCAA jail. The NCAA is on the clock.
But Penny is a different deal. He's not totally polished, but he is smart. Dude could be living on his own island. He's never going to coach at another college. Last thing he wants is any kind of stain. If he could keep that staff together for a couple years, watch out. (DJ might wish he'd signed with State though if Penny gets these last 2 blue chips)
