I do wonder how he would do with big time recruits like he would get at a big school.
I might be off, but I'm assuming that you mean: "Could he bring them along fast enough to be a contender before they leave for the NBA?" I don't think anybody is in Calipari's league in that regard, but I suspect Pearl would do fine with top recruits. He's not an Xs & Os coach. Pearl is a motivator, and those type of kids bring plenty of talent and potential built-in, so some nights they would probably look pretty good.

Good post. I totally agree with you. Some on here have to constantly cut a coach, player, etc. down. First Pitino, now Pearl. Like I said before, everyone makes mistakes...some larger than others. But we ALL do it. I have to live in Evansville, Indiana for a job, and I was here when Pearl coached at University of Southern Indiana. He had class and was well liked and respected at U.S.I.
People on here have dragged Pitino's good name through the mud :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

He was class and i liked the fouling strategy.. but he probably should have taken a deeo breath, slowed down a bit and made them realize not to do it under 2 seconds with the ball not even to midcourt.
If they went for ball vs giving up foul, no time left for uva to do anything but we saw what happened

Like Billy Clyde? :sunglasses: Just admit it, we got lucky with Cal. He wanted this job. Alot of people don't want this job because of us fans.
The hiring of BCG was an unmitigated disaster, and the blame lies with Mitch, IMO.
There are many high quality coaches out there that, when the time comes, will want the job, of that I have no doubt.

Billy G in Mitch's defense was looking like an up and comer. Now we all know how that worked out. But to think a big name coach like Bennett/Wright etc would jump at the chance to have more pressure/expectations than they do currently just to coach UK is pretty naive. What can Wright do at UK that he hasnt done at Nova? Tony Bennett is in the same class as Coach Cal now with 1 title, so what would he have to gain by leaving? We are blessed to have one of the best in the game right now and I fear when he does decide to step down that we will struggle for some years, some don't like to think about it but it's hard to replicate what he has done and not many would want to even attempt to.
