Who said that PTI or our posters? Either way this debacle is done and there is no sense in wringing our hands or rehashing it constantly.
posters here trying to downplay that it happened...no they (the sports world) are not constantly talking about it because they talk about winners for the most part but the bottom line is perception hit took place..they acknowledge how the 2 soon to be nba stars but shake their head at our situation

People still think this flop of a season happened with Mike Williams as our star guard.

We have two kids that are slated to be NBA stars and you guys think this is going to blow over 😂
Okay, I’ll play. What are the long-term implications that you suggest? We won’t get 5 stars anymore? Did that model work well?

Why is everyone so convinced a coaching change is the red pill to fix things ? Guess nobody cares to remember how many consecutive coaches failed and most of them miserably
I wasn’t suggesting that personally but it seems like that’s the general call on this board. That said, I love Pike but I don’t think his model is what works now. It sucks because when he took the job, I thought he was perfect for RU. Then everything changed…

Well one of two narratives comes out of this:

1. Pike doesn’t know how to utilize NBA level talent
2. Rutgers doesn’t have the talent to support NBA level talent

Pick your poison, it’s bad either way.

Winning college basketball requires great talent and great coaches. Talented players don’t want to play with scrubs and they want to play for winners.

Some place somewhere there’s a 16 year old stud that was watching ESPN today and saw that on PTI.

You can send that down the line to a 14 or 15 year old as well. It’s just bad press that never should exist in the first place.

Doesn’t look promising. Love the guy as well. Hope he can figure it out.

Topic today, Rutgers, why weren’t they better. Anyone watch?

missed it but I thought posters lectured us and said no one noticed

Oh they did. Said nationally no one cares and we’re overplaying the embarrassment.

You are overplaying it. I didn’t say no one would mention it I said no one will care in two weeks.

Also, what did they say? Was it “horrible coaching” or “bad supporting cast”. I’m betting the latter.

I mean #2 was OBVIOUSLY true. Why this is particularly important in the era of 1 year rentals is what you need to convince me of.

And, in case people forgot, it’s not like Dylan and Ace were two of the top three PLAYERS in the country. Prospects and players are very different things.

Not buying that. That model never worked for us going back to the old days anyway. The Pike model was much what GS touts for football: developmental program. If we want to stay with Pike, that’s what we are and that means our fanbase and other donors supporting an NIL retention fund. You have a core that sticks together to foster culture and bring the right complementary pieces in through the portal each year. Hopefully never more than 3-4.

Agreed.. is everyone disappointed because we won't become the next one and done factory?

Give this another few weeks, and no one will give a crap about RU's season. This is sports, everyone has short term memories.

#2 exists because of Pike, you realize that right?

This entire fanbase was screaming all offseason to add a 5. We had Ewin verbally commit to Rutgers and he asked for a few more bucks, Pike told him no I’m not playing that game.

That’s not some random rumor from Otto on twitter. That’s something that came from the mods here.

Ewin had double digit points and 7.5 boards per game at FSU by the way.

Additionally, the game has changed. Holding on to players for multiple years and developing a core that leads to strong Pike team defense is no longer a thing.

You guys try to create this narrative that we had a misfit of kids that just landed in RU’s lap. No, these are players Pike hand picked.

I mean honestly, not to be a dick to Martini specifically, but we watched him play all year. It was clear as day this level wasn’t for him. I’ll give Pike a pass for missing that during recruiting, but you had a full year of him playing in the B1G. In what universe is he starting in the Big Ten Tournament over Lathan? It’s stuff like that where I shake my head and can see our HC spot doesn’t know what’s going on.

Continue to watch this play out. No one is coming to save us, we get to ride this one out thanks to that slime bucket Hobbs.

They will . Onto teams actually playing in March madness.
But at Rutgers it won’t be forgotten and may be a turning point in pike’s tenure here one way or another

Those coaches didn't play in the B1G, get paid $3.5 million, or have the APC in their back pocket. Two failed miserably. Littlepage and Jordon (oh and Hill). . The others just failed .

No most posters like me said that there will be articles for a few days after the fact and then it will turn to positive as we hit the draft with most folks out side this board won’t given two Fs how we did during the season and will hear Rutgers announced two times in the top five spots at the draft (and most likely two times in the top three spots).

Agree with this …Pike will get next year to go back to his roots and see what he can do.. maybe he succeeds maybe he won’t. Man just think of all the ad nauseum gems we will see after every loss from the same posters.

Martini played 11 mins. Lathan played 31. Don’t think it really matters who starts.

I think it matters when your team is getting dumped on in the early game.

Those points matter just as much as the last possession.

True. We couldn’t hit a shot to save our lives though or even get a lucky roll. Just insanity.

Yes. Does this need to be stipulated in every post?

It’s not like every coach who ever ****s up a roster is forever precluded from making a better roster.
That’s totally fair, I personally have just not seen any evidence to suggest things are going to change.

I just think a lot of people are holding onto the Geo era where Geo bailed us out A LOT with last second shots.

I don’t think we’ve ever ran good action offensively, and believe we will continue to struggle until we are able to do so. That, or get another late game mastermind
