Cody Jinks is the current king ding a ling of Outlaw Country in my book. Sturgill, Tyler, and Jamey are more mainstream, but Jinks feels like he would actually fit right in with the original outlaws.

Toby Keith, but should be Dwight Yoakam, he was the man in blacks favorite singer from the 80-90’s. That’s enough for me. Maybe Karl Childers can weigh in

I love the Highwayman, but this song right here is legendary. Nobody gets to talk **** about Toby Keith or Wayne Newton around me... Those two did USO shows in hot zones while most musicians were "thanking the troops" and tying yellow ribbons around trees. Toby Keith is cool by me. And if you have a problem with that, "I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once, as I ever was." Meet me at South Farm and I will put a boot in your ***, or pull a hammy trying.

For the record I like Toby ok and more than 99% of country the last decade or two, and the boot in the *** line from the video in front of the troops was awesome. I just think Dwight is more fitting with that bunch. I like a good bit of Garth, and Sawyer Brown has been my favorite group since I was 10 years old or so, but I wouldn’t put Garth or Mark Miller in it either.

IMO jinks’ last couple of albums seem way too overproduced and mainstream than anything sturgill or Childers has done

I am a huge DY fan and they both should be on that painting but there is always going to be someone left off.

Several don't. Toby was probably as close to outlaw country as it got in the late 90's through early 2000's. Travis Tritt doesn't fit either. As PGB said, Dwight Yokum or even Steve Earle would be a better pick from that era.

Purists will say outlaw country was about taking the music places it had never been before, without big record labels. A lot of those guys in that picture, were signed with big labels there whole careers.

Anyway, I was just a little drunk and it felt like people were starting to **** on Toby Keith cause it's popular. I don't care much for most of his music, but I always appreciated the effort he put out for entertaining the troops. I think a lot of douchebags played off his success and style and corrupted it... But this is pretty dang cool. He and Merle were thick as thieves.**

Looks like Johnny Paycheck to me. But I could be wrong.

The other ones I'm unsure of are:

The "waitress" (Tammy Wynett?)

The man right above her standing next to Travis Tritt

The man in the picture between Charlie Daniels and David Alan Coe

The man next to Toby Keith and behind Kristoferson

I think (think) the guy next to Travis Tritt is Mel T-t-t-tillis

And this is a guess, but the guy behind Kristofferson may be Tompall Glaser? He's certainly the least known guy in the pic (by me, at least)

Toby Keith sounds like a goat pissing on an electric fence. But he's got a couple songs. Shouldn't be in that picture.
