My first car - '65 Mustang Did 104 on the Seaway in Gulfport. The Seaway was a several mile straight-away where the local boys played with speed. Later after my 104 run, I got beat by a '67 VW Bug in the quarter mile. Shame hung heavy that night.

Since when is a speeding ticket newspaper worthy? Nothing else? I got all kinds of speeding tickets on 25 and other ms highways when I was Iin college. Louisville and Carthage cops. They loved me. State police too. I got pulled over somewhere near pisgah too one night late. I wax going probably 90. cop asked what I was doing and didn't I see him. I said nope eyes on the road and trying to get home. He ended up letting me go. Wasn't always that lucky. Of course clarionledger gonna make this out to be a big deal. Always do. I've seen two articles make it to newsfeed from them last month both negative.

I’ve discovered the older I get, the more responsible driver I am. The younger I was the worse. At 16 it took intervention from above for me to still be alive.

i had a 79 transam in high school. Of course we had to go to some country blacktop roads and top it out. I wouldn’t do that today.

I had a 1969 Dodge Charger after I graduated from high school. We had moved from Memphis to Aberdeen so I had to drive to Memphis for my braces once a month. I routinely drove up to 100 mph on that trip back when it was 55 speed limit. Once a highway patrol turned his lights on when I passed him and I saw him turn around but I was way ahead of him. I came to an overpass and got off and parked below it. I heard his siren when he passed so I sat there for 15 minutes before returning to highway 78. Thank goodness I didn't see him again. It did get me to slow down on future trips. I did try to top it out on on a two lane road and got it up to 145 before backing down. The experience reminded me of the song hotrod Lincoln. The telephone poles were going by like a picket fence. Young and stupid. It took several football fields to stop that drum brake Detroit steel.

In about 1999, I took a Kawasaki ZX7 up to 135 on Hwy 82 between Starkville and Columbus. The scary thing was how not scary it was.

I see fools going 95 to 100 on I220 every day. If you are not doing at least 80 you will get run over. They repaved the road so at least now you don't see guys getting airborne anymore.

220 is the Wild West. You have to drive aggressively. It is also unwise to drive that stretch without a wireless hole punch easily accessible.

My daily commute down 82 from Starkville towards Columbus I have my cruise set on 76 and it's pretty common to be passed by 2-5 cars doing 90+ in my 20 mile trip.

I drive an hour one way on I20 daily with cruise generally set 75-80. I’m not the slowest, but I’d bet I have more braincells than the ones who blow past me based on their driving style.

It looks like he was also charged with not providing a drivers license, though I would hope the state of Mississippi is set up to dismiss that charge once the person provides it.
As for being arrested for speeding, is there a reckless driving threshold in Mississippi?...like X mph over the limit = reckless driving charge. If so, reckless driving is something people are arrested for.


Anyways, I agree that a speeding ticket really isnt newsworthy. This wasnt just a speeding ticket though, he was arrested. The fact that he was arrested moves it away from 'its only a speeding ticket'.
It certainly isnt anything to wring your hands over or clutch pearls, but it is also distinctly different from just a speeding ticket.

Is 'Bad Dawgs' still a thing in The Reflector? I guess even if it is, he wouldnt show up since it was before the fall semester.

At about age 17 I was driving a friend’s 73 RS Camaro. He and his girlfriend were passed out in the back seat. We were in town, speed limit probably 35-40, and probably 1 am. Burn Rubber by The Gap Band comes on either the radio, the cassette, or possibly the 8 Track. Can’t remember which but I did as instructed. Crossed the RR tracks at 110, saw oncoming headlights at 125, realized it was a cop at 135. Met him with all four wheels locked up. He said I got it down to 85 before he could lock his radar. He let me go and told me to get my *** out of the city limits. He never looked in the back seat. They never woke up. I left them locked in the car with the keys in the vacant lot across from Sonic. They were pissed when they finally woke up but they really don’t know how lucky they were we didn’t all go to jail.

I've heard the phrase "run ____ state tags" for commercial trucks, but I don't think I hear "run ___ county" tags anywhere but Mississippi. Even in states that have the county on the tag.

1976 Chrysler Cordova - 400 with 4 barrel carb... 140 on Highway 389 south of Houston as a teenager trying to break a record to get home that I saw in my sister's year book. I didn't break it, they had to be lying.

1988 Camaro - last V8 with IROC performance package but not stickers. 135 topped out on same Highway.

I don’t disagree completely. But mine was on an open 4-lane highway with no other vehicles around & for less than a minute. Very little danger. If you’re doing 100 with other vehicles around, that’s different story.

I got my license in 82, there were plenty of places in Greenwood we could buy beer prior to turning 18.
