CCD — Central City Dump? That’s what we used to call it. Spent a lot of time there growing up! :)

Hard to address all of your questions and do them justice typing with my thumbs on the phone. Here is the answer to your basic question about the meaning of “Jesus died for our sins.” This guy, Paul Washer, is a great teacher — he gets it. This is what I believe:

Finally got around to watching that video. I'm still not seeing a connection between Jesus's death and our sins being forgiven.

Is it that you don’t understand the concepts Paul Washer explained in that video, or you don’t believe it’s true. Just trying to figure out your objection.

Here is a concise gospel explanation:

If you are interested in understanding the concepts of salvation, I recommend reading 2 books of the Bible: the Gospel of John and Romans (a good study Bible would help explain some of the more difficult concepts/passages — John MacArthur Study Bibles are good — so is the ESV study Bible).

Here is another good vid that explains the Gospel message:

I hope you find these materials useful.

I was pulling into a bank to use ATM during a sunny day, at the time I drove a Jeep Cherokee and had my kayak on top, just a normal day, was not tired at all. I pull into the parking lot to park the car , I put my car in park and look into the rearveiw mirror which is at eye level on front window. What I see is an older man with grey hair & gray beard mouth partially open staring in my direction with eyes wide open. The experience seemed longer but it was just a few seconds, I took my eyes off the mirror and then looked back again and he was gone. To this day this bothers me, the face looked very familiar, but because it happened so fast I can’t be 100% positive, who knows it could have been me in another demention.

I don't believe in God or Heaven, but I'm trying to make sense of how and why Jesus's death was the thing that essentially flicked the switch allowing people into Heaven. I'm not trying to bait anyone into an argument or anything like that, just trying to wrap my head around this concept since I never really understood it even in my youth when I was religious. If I'm understanding this correctly, it seems that once God saw that Jesus was going to be killed, he transferred everybody's sins to him. This raises more questions:

1. Why did God do this? Until this point, nobody had gotten in because everyone had sinned. Did he decide that his criteria was too strict and needed to be updated?
2. If he wanted people in Heaven, couldn't he have just chosen who he wanted anyway?
3. Why did everyone's sins have to be transferred to someone with no sins, why couldn't they just be transferred to someone who wasn't going to Heaven anyway?
4. So Jesus dies now on record as having committed every sin of everybody who believes and will believe in him, but God forgives him anyway because he knew it wasn't really him who committed those sins?
