TVs are like gas grills. Short term buys. Buy the cheapest one you want and in 3 years get the newest technology again at a cheap price.
I agree. It's amazing how few features I actually need in a TV. I'd rather put the money into a comfortable chair in front of the TV.

I dont see how this is possible... you get a great grill itll last you forever. My dad would spend $99 every year on a cheap charbroil and every 2 years he'd get the same one cause theyd rust easily. I hooked him up with a quality weber when i worked at home depot in college and that one last 12 plus years before he turned around and sold it

Grills are different. On my Weber I can just swap out a burner when it goes or replace the drip tray every other year. The technology doesn’t really advance as fast. In 3 years 5G could be the internet standard and who knows if the roku box inside of that new TV can handle 5G.

I would love to see Rutgers get together with Scarlet Fever, Rally House, Fanatics, or someone else and start a Rutgers merchandise cable TV/ Internet shopping channel. Even if it was something basic without hosts-rotation of pictures of Rutgers items with price and item numbers. Throw in some Rutgers music and photos of campus every so often and maybe clips from games and interviews with past and present Rutgers coaches and past players.Other schools have had them. Saw Oklahoma’s on TV once.

I think Al and Mo should co-host and demonstrate the products.

picked up an LG 55 in4k smart tv recently and it works great. Technology changes so fast that it probably is not worth it to spend $1500 for OLED or QLED when they may be under $500 in a few years.

You can get a 55in 4k tv for between $250-450 right now

I have Samsung and TCL TVs in my house and prefer TCL, but I'm a bit concerned my Chinese overlords are tracking me.

Thats the kind of deal I’m looking for. Growing up i remember having 2 TVs my entire childhood, and getting the second one was the biggest event of the year. Now, I saw people buying up big flat screens on Black Friday like they were disposable. I’m looking for one those $220-$250 for a name brand deal, but don’t want to get a total piece of junk (I’ve had issues with cheap dynex and element TVs, that cost $300 five years ago). Heck, my local Shoprite has a stack of 50” LGs for $260. I’ve heard positive things about TCLs, but wanted to gut check this board before getting one.

One thing I noticed with the TCLs at Target is that the bottom border is a bit bigger than others, which will annoy me now that TV borders are so thin. The LGs on the other hand have only 2 HDMI ports, which when I have a cable box, Nintendo switch, classic Nintendo, wii, and classic Super Nintendo, is a few too few.

with LG you get over a 100 free channels from the built in xumo app. Channels like CBS News, NBC News, and such. This way if it is a room without a cable box you can cut the cord with this, Prime, and the other streaming apps. i think it has casting too if you want to take something from a phone or laptop and put on the tv.

LG and Samsung are the main brands people buy. The RCAs and Westinghouses are licensed and not produced by those companies.

The lowest prices for televisions are just before the Superbowl. Wait till and consider the besy value on the market. The 65" TCL 6 is a great television, particularly the model 625 is $699 and it is not discounted yet but should come down by $100 in a month. The 55" costs $100 less. This TCL model beats Samsung tvs for $1,000. The only weakness it has is the sound but you can get a Visio soundbar for $150. Check CNET.Com for further details.

interesting delimna

buy a tv now for $100 more so you can use it for 5 weeks or wait the 5 weeks to buy just before the Superbowl.

Guess it depends on the needs of the individual.

I read these type reviews all the time.

The only thing I have realized is that I am NOT smart enough to know what smart tv to buy !

I used SONY trinatrons (sp?) for many years. My last one had lasted from Squan to Florida, back to Squan and as far as I knew was working fine.
Matt and Amanda came down to watch a game. They stood up, "We can't watch this anymore." Left and came back with a flat screen and threw the Sony to the curb.

That was about 4-5 years ago, should I make them watch this old one ? Maybe I'll get them to buy another ?

I am also interested in a grill/smoker and am hearing Traeger is THE one ?
But many model #'s have me befuddled....

You should be smart enough to know how much can you afford and what size would be appropriate for the room. Larger your screen size, further away you need to seat from the TV. Once you narrowed down what you need in terms of screen size and what you can afford, turn to the experts. There are few good ones. I trust cnet.com but many others are excellent as well.
