Reconsider. You are being served, helped,by a very low wage person.Every little bit helps.Even if it only a Buck or Two.Take out? Never heard of that. Delivery absolutely every time at least $5 (i never order delivery of more than $20)
I don’t tip on a take out order at a pizza or Chinese place but will tip on delivery.
I do tip at Chili’s or a place like that on a take out order.
10% pre-tax tops with a round down to nearest quarter. Never more than $5.00. Restaraunt I am 20%er for good service pre-tax. Bad service to 15%, really bad and its going down to 10% (very rare).
Have only left no tip once, but that was a pathetic service and once walked out with paying after waiting for an hour getting a single beer only to have the mgr come out and tell me the waiter forgot to put our ticket in. He offered no comp and said we could get a discount next time. Is said why the fruck would i every come back..
We both agreed I would not be eating there that night.
I'm confused - why would someone not tip a bartender but tip a regular server ?I've never heard of tipping on a pizza or Chinese, but if you order food to go from a Restaurant where it's a bartender or waiter taking care of your order I'm all for 10%.
When it comes to delivery, I usually go $3-5 unless it's an order over $50.
While at the restaurant and bar I'm a minimum of 20%. If the bartender hooks it up expect that to go up even more.
people that don't tip the owner/bartender are ********.
Most Pizza places have a tip jar next to the register. When people pick up food they can tip.do people tip when they pick their pizzas up, I never have. Do you tip if you actually go and order at the register and wait...so whats the difference. I dont tip when I pick anything up. However if they are delivering then yes I will tip 20%. Should we also tip the grocery lady in Shop Rite or the deli guy slicing the meat

I was referring to when the owner is bartending. I feel like a lot of old school guys have the mentality why do I need to tip when they are already making money off of my drink.I'm confused - why would someone not tip a bartender but tip a regular server ?
Got it. I always tip the woman who cuts my hair even though she owns the shop. She is still the one giving me the service.I was referring to when the owner is bartending. I feel like a lot of old school guys have the mentality why do I need to tip when they are already making money off of my drink.
You really couldn't just round up to the nearest quarter? For home delivery 10% pre-tax tops with a round down to nearest quarter.
You don’t tip at McDonalds.Reconsider.You are being served, helped,by a very low wage person.Every little bit helps.Even if it only a Buck or Two.
Yes, but is the waitstaff taking your to go order? Or a manager, busser, host/cashier?Fast food places pay a different wage to their employees than servers get. An employee that receives tips can be paid as little as $2.13/hour.
When you pick up, whether at McDonald's, a Chinese restaurant, pizzeria, or Applebee's, there is no server. There is the person who answers the phone (unless you order online), the kitchen staff who cook and prepare the order, and a cashier who you pay and hands you the order (who might be the same person who took the order).Fast food places pay a different wage to their employees than servers get. TIP! Restaurant workers LIVE on their Tips.It does not have to be th 20% or more that you give at a table. But every bit helps.Tips are usually pooled .
I got back from Switzerland a couple weeks ago. It was so great to not have to tip anyone.
If I have to provide the service, ie: go pick up from the counter and/or throw out my own trash if I eat in then I deserve the tip. You don't tip at fast food places, do you? Picking up for takeout is the same thing in my book. I don't get to sit and enjoy the experience.
I tip generously (20-25%) if others do the work. Delivery drivers get an extra bonus if they can make it in a reasonable amount of time in bad weather. What is reasonable depends on how bad the conditions are, of course.

When you sit at a table, you have a server who actually serves you. They get your drinks and check to see if you need refills. They make sure your appetizer comes out before your entree. They get you a new fork if you drop yours. They check on you during the meal to make sure everything is OK. That is a whole lot more than someone handing you a bag.
And with a real server, at the end of the meal you can determine if the server did a good or poor job, and adjust the tip accordingly. With the person who hands you a bag, you would tip before you know if your order is correct or not.
Even if you think the person handing you a bag is deserving of a tip, they certainly don't deserve the 20% a real server would get. The bag handler does 1/10th the work of a real server. So maybe they deserve 1/10th the tip, or 2%. So on a $30 order, you're going to tip them 60 cents?

Bartenders can make the most. They can get a lot more customer churn in 90 minutes and people often overtip bartenders for multiple reasons.
