How much we drinking here Pennsy?!? I know that you know, being as I am writing a dissertation and you wrote one as well, that such an undertaking (and grad school and academia in general) tend to make one "turn to the bottle," but I am still able to easily rationalize a $30 standard (750 ml) bottle of the good, well-aged corn syrup on the grounds that my beer costs on average $9 per six pack.

Actually, I've been trying to drink more tea and less booze and coffee, but I was just thinking that after my run I should stop by the store and get one of those six packs. So, as you can see, it's going real well.

I’ve completely lost all touch with reality when it comes to beer....$9 per 6 pack sounds like a bargain. Damn NE IPA’s set me back about $20 a 4 pack (some more, some less). And it only gets worse with Imperial stouts and sours.

I like Moscow Mules. That Irish pub in the Haymarket makes a great one. Not a huge fan of Kentucky mules
I enjoy most mules outside of a Mexican mule. Moscows are the original and are excellent with Tito’s being my go to for the vodka. I enjoy an Irish mule made with Jameson myself. Mules are soooo simple to make that a bartender that can’t make a descent one shouldn’t be behind the bar. Although there are those bars that try incredibley hard to be original that they add a bunch of ingredients to be different. Also stay away from Brickway’s ginger beer as it is terrible. They make some good beer, I really like the vanilla coffee stout, but the ginger beer is awful.

Evan Williams is about the only "cheap" bourbon I'll drink since I really got into it. I like the KSU analogy, much better than it has any right to be. I just bought some of their Honey Bourbon. To a bourbon snob I'm sure it is too artificially sweet and all that jazz, but darn if it isn't nice on the rocks on a hot day. I know some people like Jim Beam for a cheaper option, but I'd take Williams over Beam every time.

When I'm looking to try something new, or find the best option for my price range, I like to hit breakingbourbon.com. Their reviews are pretty in depth and give you some good info to base a decision on if you already know your preferences.

Hay Penny, won’t believe this Markers Mark is cheaper than Buffalo Trace ...

24.98 compared to 26.48 here in Omaha.

Hope cheap is cheap?

If you're mixing with something like Coke that masks most the bourbon you can get any $15 bourbon. If you're going to make a cocktail like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned I'd go with Buffalo Trace or get a decent rye like Bulleit. I wouldn't go any cheaper and BT is an excellent value. For sipping, Four Rose's or Eagle Rare are great bargains.

Bottoms up.

I know all of us on here who drink Bourbon have talked endlessly in previous posts about our favorite Bourbons.

But I don't always like spending a fortune on top shelf stuff. So what is everyone's favorite cheap Bourbon?

Remember what Tom T Hall used to say:

“It's faster horses, younger women,
Older whiskey, and more money". ;)
